Riding the Subway Hi All, I was just curious if anyone has run into any problems bringing their little one onto the subways in NY. I know you are not supposed to, unless they are in a bag. My yorkie is 5 pounds, and sits comfortably in my lap. I'm new to the area, and have not once seen someone bring a little dog onto the train, but my friends have assured me I'd have no problems doing so. I've stayed on the side of caution and generally bring a bookbag with me and put her in that iwth the top open and her head sticking out. It's just annoying to stick her in there - she doesn't like it and puts up a fight every time until I get her in, at which point she's fine. Having the bookbag isn't all to bad, as I can use it for storage to keep some treats and water in it but curious if I'd be asking for trouble if I took her out and kept her on my lap. Has anyone been asked to leave the train or received tickets for doing so? Has anyone ridden on the train with their dogs out, and authorities see it and ignore it? Complaints from other passengers? Thanks for any thoughts on this! |
Plenty of people ride the subway with their dogs and cats either on their lap or under their seat. Just yesterday I saw a man riding the 1 train with his terrier mix on his lap listening to his ipod. If the police don't see you then you won't be fined. My friend got a ticket for having her yorkie out just a week ago on the A train. Sometimes the police are just a bit anal. |
No Problems I think you'll be fine........but start early so they will get used to the sounds of the Train System. I've been on the "T"/Underground Train in Boston and "BART"/Underground Train in San Francisco and surrounding Bay Area. I had no Problems at all with anyone or my Pet, I think he just wants to be around me so bad that he is willing to put up with any situation. You have to make them feel like they are going to have "Fun" and make it a happy experience? They feed off of your energy....so how ever you are feeling? That's how they are going to feel? We create our Pets behaviour and them for that matter. They probably will actually enjoy it b/c it's another opportunity to socialize with others? Good Luck! |
