Jack vs Yorkie Jack Russels are dogs know to be hard to handle. They are terriers and wel as yorkies. How do thay compare? |
Jacks They may both be terriers, but I do not find my Yorks to be hyper..I took in a Jack to rehome..she was "bonkers"....the Yorks hated her..they hated the Min Pin I had also..but adored my Doxies...I am just nto itno a hyper, over-active breed..I like a smart, alert, playful dog, but one who knows how to settle down and is not a barker..that is why I find in my Yorks. Also..Yorkies do not shed..no odor to mine. |
We have a JRT next door to me, and he is the cutest dog... he plays with Foster and Schatzi pretty frequently... he doesn't seem too hyper to me, but the neighbors are really good at exercising him every day.. he is a really smart dog, totally adorable.. |
I don't see how you can compare the two breeds. They are totally different. I know someone who has one. You can read about them here: http://doggies.com/Jack_Russell_Terrier/ |
Phew. Good. Jacks look cute but I've had a very, very, bad expierience with one. :( |
We had a JRT before we got our Yorkies. The JRT was SOOO SMART!!! But, he had to be heavily exercised, everyday. He was walked about 2-3 miles and then we would play ball with him for a couple of hours everyday too. Still, he was a bundle of energy. He was a good dog, well trained, minded us, until my husband got sick and became disabled and could not exercise him properly. Then, when my husband would have to go into the hospital and I would have to stay at the hospital with him, even though my mom was here at the house, the JRT would tear up EVERYTHING not tied down. We had to rehome him because he could not tolerate the lack of exercise and us being gone. They are very good dogs, but they take tons of time and attention. After my husband became disabled and had very little energy to devote to exercise, he was so very lonely for a dog, so we got Rowdy - BEST decision ever. Rowdy loves to walk, but about a half mile at a time - perfect for my husband. And if he doesn't feel like it, I can walk Rowdy after work. Rowdy is pretty laid back, just a little barky, definitely on point for strange noises and the like, but nothing like the JRT. Rexy is even more laid back. Neither Rex or Rowdy have the energy of the JRT - who could go and go and go and go, just like the energizer bunny. From my experience, the two breeds are as different as night and day. It's even hard to imagine that they are both terriers. |
It depends on the dog's personality itself. You can't fully judge a dog just by what breed it is. Majority of Jack Russels are very hyper active and needs lots of attention and playtime. Yorkies tend to have lots of energy too. My first Yorkie, Bounce, is soooo laid back and calm. Lotte, WILD CHILD. So it just depends. |
My son-in-law has a friend with a Jack Russell, and he is a very sweet, smart dog. But, I think that breed is way different from the yorkies. |
I have both a Jack Russel and a Yorkie they are very different cant really compare them but they get along just fine and my JR isnt hyper at all i find my yorkie is more energetic then he is! lol |
I have a yorkie and a Jack Russell. The yorkie wears my Jack Russell out. The JR is 1 1/2 yrs and the yorkie is 6 1/2 mth so I think the yorkie will become calmer as he nears one year old. The JR really calmed down about then and she is a sweetheart now. I do take her for 2 walks a day (not long ones though, about 1/2 a mile) and she plays with the beagle next door for about a half hour each evening. Out of the 3 dogs I have she is the most likely to be in my lap in the evenings. |

I'm a HUGE Jack Russell fan....just love those dogs. We had several of them in the Horse barns I used to keep my horses at. They are VERY busy....very active...and require lots of attention. They did well due to the fact they had plenty of room to run and explore. I've housesat for several Yorkies...and although they are very inquisitive and playful...and BUSY....they are not quite as "jacked up"....as the JRT....but that's just my experience. They are both fun dogs! Francie |
i have a jack too...I really think that my yorkies have more energy than the jack...Now when we had two jacks... that was crazy!!!! But just one is no big deal |
