Just A dog! Just a Dog From time to time, people tell me, "lighten up, it's just a dog", or "that's a lot of money for just a dog". They don't understand the distance traveled, the time spent or the costs involved for "just a dog". Some of my proudest moments have come about with "just a dog". Many hours have passed and my only company was "just a dog", but I did not once feel slighted. Some of my saddest moments have been brought about by "just a dog" and in those days of darkness the gentle touch of "just a dog" gave me comfort and reason to overcome the day. If you, too, think it's "just a dog", then you will probably understand phrases like "just a friend", "just a sunrise" or "just a promise". "Just a dog" brings into my life the very essence of friendship, trust and pure, unbridled joy. "Just a dog" brings out the compassion and patience that make me a better person. Because of "just a dog" I will rise early, take long walks and look longingly to the future. So for me and folks like me, it's not "just a dog" but an embodiment of all the hopes and dreams of the future, the fond memories of the past and the pure enjoyment of the moment. "Just a dog" brings out what's good in me and diverts my thoughts away from myself and the worries of the day. I hope that someday they can understand that it's not "just a dog" but the thing that gives me humanity and keeps me from being "just a human". So the next time you hear the phrase "just a dog", just smile, because they "just don't understand". This is what I send everyone that tells me that Lola is "just a dog." |
 very well put. I hear that phrase all the time. And what more can you do but smile and 'think' well this is comming from 'just your opinion'. No thye don't understand unless they have one too. thank you for posting this.:aimeeyork :aimeeyork :aimeeyork :aimeeyork |

A :aimeeyork is never "just a dog." Some will never understand...but actually...we should pity them. They are "just are missing out." |
Lolarue, your furbaby is adorable!! I'ts not just a dog for me. When people tell me that I must be crazy I tell them yes I know and I don't care. I really dont care anymore because people that make those comments DON'T understand. If it truly was just a dog for me ,I know for a fact that my furbaby would not be alive today and so happy too! I hate when people say that to me. They take furbabies which mean so much so lightly! Sometimes I think that they have just never experienced the type of love we have with our fur balls. |

:good job: :happyboun :clapsmile :goodpost: I wish more people were "just a dog" |
I've never run accross the entire poem before. Just a couple of lines. Thank you for posting it all. I love it, have copied and pasted into word so I can keep it and share it with my "just a dog" friends. I sometimes wonder if people who don't have this special bond can truly be happy as they seem on the outside. |
