feeding questions?? ok i have a question about feeding. nori hasn't really ate his dry food still. he really doesn't seem interested. people on here were saying they feed boiled chicken and vegetables. how much should i be feeding him. i know he eats 2 times a day but i mean what amount should i be feeding him. and is that an ok meal or just treats. can i do without dog food? he is 7.5 lbs. i don't want to over feed him or under feed him. please some suggestions her. and are hotdogs bad for them? thanks |

Just for the sake of variety, Kacee had for dinner last night: her mixed dog food, a little boiled and chopped chicken breast, a dabble of cottage cheese, a couple of baby carrots (sliced in half), and two hip chips!:D I wouldn't feed them hot dogs. |
well i did feed him a hotdog yesterday, but i cut it into tiny pieces. the only reason i did is my big dog gets hotdogs for treats and when i was getting them out nori started telling me he wanted one so i figured he was hungry and gave hima half one. i dont want to feed him hotdogs i just want him to eat. so do you suggest like a cup of food with some chicken mixed in and maybe some cottage cheese. do you think i should do that 2 times a day. is that enough or too much. thanks kelly |
My yorkie loves cottage cheese...he would perfer that over anything...Maybe you should try changing to a different food? What are you trying to feed him now? I feed Tiny Nutro - puppy - lamb and rice...He loves it...But unlike a lot of ppl...I actually keep his food down all the time...YESSSS....I FREEE FEED HIM!!! I would perfer for him to eat when he wants to...Not when I tell him he can! You should defanitly try the cottage cheese and vegetables. All small breeds like vegetables. Well...Most! |
Do you leave dry food out all day long? I don't b/c I want to be able to predict when my boys will poop. Plus I wanted to give them a standard schedule. As soon as I wake up in the morning I'll take them outside to do their business then take them right back in. I then give them a small portion of dry food (they dislike wet food) and they'll eat a good amount and whatever is left over I’ll throw out b/f I head out for work. I'll also do the same when I come back from work around 5 and again around 8:30pm. This has always worked for me b/c I'm giving them time to get hungry so when they get their food they eat it rather than play w/ it. Might be hard at first but they’ll quickly get used to the schedule. Leaving dry food out too long is not good b/c the food looses its freshness and will probably taste staled to them making them uninterested. Good luck. |

We take two looooooong walks a day; one of a morning and one in the late evening, so that keeps her from being hungry. Sure! Give it a try. You might try another good quality dry food - there are a number of them. Find one that HE likes and will eat. I don't mix the chicken or cottage cheese with the dry. Mine won't eat it that way. She prefers hers separated!:D |
sorry to ask so many questions. is your yorkie the same weight? if so about how much do you give him of the dry food, like a quarter or half cup? sorry right now he is on science diet that is what is previous owner gave me. thanks kelly |
Kobe & Kali get soft food 2x a day. Kobe gets special liver diet soft food mixed with cottage cheese and a little pumpkin. Kali gets nutro puppy lamb and rice. And they get hard kibbles left out 24/7. Kobe has his special liver diet food and Kali has royal canine puppy mini. Neither one has a problem with over eating. The more active they are the more hard food they eat. |

thanks what i was thinking about the science diet. but i called his previous owner and he said he ate it for him. when i got him he sent the food with him. so i definitely will change it i thought maybe there was a problem as to why he isn't eating. thanks |

There are a lot of good dry foods available and where you live you shouldn't have any problem finding them. You can check out the Health and Diet section here and you'll see lots of discussions about different foods. Science Diet isn't one of the best, but if he likes it that's what he likes and that's all that matters for now. You can change food by mixing the two gradually so it doesn't mess up his stomach. Schedule or free feeding Freyja is a very finicky eater and I have tried Royal Canin and Eukanuba on her. She still has some baby food chicken when I have to give her medicine with her food. I am finding she is just not interested in eating when I get up in the morning (~6:00 am) and I need to go to work. When I remove the bowl (on schedule) a while later she'll spend her time sniffing the floor and trying to eat stuff she finds on the floor. My vet said she is in favor of schedule feeding but I have gradually switched over to free feed just so I can see some food going into her. She is eliminating OK. Just as a question: What do we do with our yorkies, schedule or free feed (remember I have to work during the day)? |
