Need help  Hi all, My boyfriend wants to get a cat. I am scared how Cole (my 3lb yorkie) will do with a cat. Anyone have experience with this? Anyone know a good breed of cat that does well with small dogs??? Thanks! |
Hi! I wanted to tell ya that Mason Loves cats. He plays with them and is just wonderful. He was little though when i brought him home and hjas been raised around them so i dont know how yours would do....I thinkitll be ok once he gets used to it!!! Good Luck!! |
Pita is good with cats but she chases small kittens around until they get old enough to stand up for themselves. I live on a farm with a BUNCH of barn cats, and the bigger ones that will turn around and smack her, she respects. The baby kitties that run from her or are too young to know better, she chases and barks at. Once they start playing with her or ignoring her, depending on the cat, she's fine. Pita did, however gross this sounds, bite an ear off of a freshly born kitty that I showed her and she put her whole mouth around it's head and I pulled the kitty and the ear ripped. This was a brand new kitty tho only hours old. I learned from that mistake. The kitty is fine and big now and lives in my daughters house, his name is Van Gogh, LOL. So, yes, your yorkie will adjust to your kitty, it may take time. But they will soon either respect each other's space or be best of friends. |
Meg's best buddy is our cat Brietta. They get along great. They play together all the time.. sometimes while they are running through the house and jumping around it sounds like a stampede lol. I think your baby will like having another friend to play with and keep company when you arent there :) |
Thanks everyone for your support. Do certain breeds get along better with dogs than others?? |
my lil girl daisy 4 1/2 pounds loves and gets along with my huge 23 pound fur ball cat the cat is 13 years old dasiy is 3 1/2ys.they play and she loves givin kisses to him. I don't know his full breed info but hes a big long haired fluff ball. i think he has maincoon in him he has always been big. I think as long as you intraduce them gradually and watch they will do fine. also i know siameace and pershans can be a little testy some times. sorry about the miss spells. good luck. |
okay i don't know but this sounds like your situation. my first yorkie lived with me before i got the kitten. when i brought the kitten home they loved each other. now my yorkie passed and i still have the cat an just got a new yorkie that has never been around cats and they love each other. i think they will do just fine. my cat was just a regular i guess mixed cat. hope that helps |
Stedman & Brinkley 2 Attachment(s) Stedman (our Yorkie) does just fine with Brinkley (our FAT cat!) :p They play together constantly, and love each other so much :D They can get a little rough at times (just playing though...not trying to hurt each other or anything!) so thank goodness Brinkley is declawed. He doesn't need them as he is STRICTLY an indoor cat. He had this done while he was still little, before he got used to having them, so that he wouldn't "miss" them later on in life. So declawing may be something that you want to consider. I would NEVER recommend declawing if the cat is going to be outside at ANY TIME (since their claws are their defense weapon!), but for an inside cat, all their going to be using their claws for is to tear up ("sharpen their claws on") your carpet and furniture! :thumbdown Anyway, I have posted some pictures below, and as you can see, Mr. Brinks and Stedman are the BEST of friends!!! :aimeeyork :tinyheart :cat: P.S.- Please excuse Stedman's BAD haircut in the picture with Brinkley and daddy. Mommy is VERY upset with the lady groomer at PetSmart  :thumbdown lol |
Kitty My Persian hated my Yorkie. No fighting just a swat if he tried to bother her. He just wanted to play but she was having none of it. They were never pals but not a problem either. Donna |
my cats and rocky get along great. |
My daughter's Ragdoll cat lived with use for 6 weeks this Spring. Ragdolls are known to be playful cats, though tend to be very large. Princess is 13 lbs, but loved to lay on the floor and let Sissy come near her and then wrap her paws around her and kind-of hold her down. Sissy thought it was great fun and loved to bite Princess' ears. When Princess was getting near having enough, she would whack Sissy with her paw, which Sissy just though was fabulous fun. But eventually when Princess had enough, she would jump up somewhere Sissy could not. They played lots together. |
Thank you all so much. It makes me feel SO much better to hear that they generally get along great. :D |
