Has anyone flown with their yorkie? I'm looking to go up to Connecticut for 2 weeks to visit family for Christmas. I'm here in Florida and am getting a direct flight each way, so the trip in the air is about 2 hr 45 min. I was wondering if anyone has flown their yorkie and how did it go? In December she will be a little over a year old! If you can let me know their pup did in the air it would be awesome! Thanks- Ashley & Emmy:aimeeyork |
Trixie is an international traveler. I took her with me from Wisconsin to Europe over Xmas last year. I was really worried ahead of time, but it ended up being a great experience. It was well worth it for me. Trixie did sooooo well, didn't make a peep and most passengers around me didn't even know I had a dog with me. I was a little worried at first because she seemed kind of freaked out by the whole experience. She didn't have an accident in her bag. In fact, she held it for 14 hours straight (but peed a puddle under the Xmas tree outside Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam :D ) I gave her little bits of treat and nutrical underway to keep her bloodsugar up. I also made her drink a little water every hour or so. Good luck with your travels. If you have any questions, let me know, I have lots of little tips that might help. |
No Problems Yorkie's love to travel......mine anyway, I flew my male/Artie when he was very young from Orlando to Sacramento, Calif. with a stop over in Atlanta. I had absolutely no problems! In fact everyone around me treated me like a "Movie Star". It was actually one of my favorite trips! I got to sip Bloody Mary's in the "Delta Crown Room" with him lounging next to me in both the Orlando & Atlanta Airports. My Vet. did give me some meds. for him but I didn't end up giving it to him until the last couple of hours before we landed. B/c I knew that's when I was going to take my nap. He loved it and I got excellent service from every at the Airport. I've had him on the "T"/Train System in Boston and on Bart/Muni in the heart of San Francisco. And he never once said a peep or acted uncomfortable......that was his best Public outing. But it's important for you to remain calm since they feed off of your energy. I had more problems with the person I was traveling with....Thank God for the Yorkie's:aimeeyork You'll have Fun. |
I've done the Fla-CT trip several times with no problems for my Lola. Just be sure you check with the airline as to their requirements. They are all different- some only allow two animals per cabin- so it's important to ensure availabilty ahead of time. |
Oliver has been from San Francisco to Boston 3 times. We are going again on Saturday. He is a little nervous on the plane, I think it is the loud noises. he shakes a little bit, but is quiet and somewhat calm. Usually they let me put the bag on my lap. I open the side of the bag and stick my hand in there. Just to warn you, be prepared for tons of attention!!! Everyone loves when there is a cutie on board! |
Thanks so much for the advice!!! Sorry it took me a while to read these, I've been consumed with work, end of the semester finals, AND packing for my trip to the Bahamas coming up on Tuesday!!! Emmy won't be traveling on that one though, haha. I think we're going to be flying Delta and I saw they only let a certain amount of pets on flight, hopefully that won't be an issue! I'm so glad to hear all good stories about traveling. I think I will bring her to the vet and maybe get her some meds just in case! -Ashley & Emmy:aimeeyork |
Car seats for our princess and prince First time on here and want to ask you all for suggestions on car seats? Also, tips for air travel with our two babies, Gracie and Leeds? We are retiring in two months and will be traveling. Do airlines allow us to take our babies on the plane .. with us in the cabin? Thanks |

I've flown a few times w/ mine. Wylie does just great - our Marcel needs a tranquilizer bc he hates flying / being confined like that. There are some traveling stickies you should read in this section: Traveling with Yorkies - YorkieTalk.com Forums - Yorkshire Terrier Community |
