worms I am not sure if I should talk about this, I am ashame and very upset. My baby Daisy has worms. Doc says it most likely came from walking her and she picked it from something dead on the road. :eek: Even though I watch them so carefully:confused: I walk my pups every day. But I will now walk them in a safer place. I have never had a animal with worms:eek: It is not a good feeling your baby has these awlful things. Be careful where you walk your pets. I was really stupid. What else can cause worms:confused::confused: :confused: |
Don't be upset. Any of our pets can pick up these parasites when they are walked. Mine did and was sick for almost four months. My vet kept saying it was the food. I finally went for a second opinion and the new vet wormed him. In less than 48 hrs. he was back to normal. As long as your furbaby gets well that's all that matters. |
Don't feel bad, it's not a thing of being stupid.... I think even the *best* dog owner's dog can get them. Fact is, if he goes outside he's at risk - even in your own backyard. Dogs can pick worms up from a number of places. They can be passed on from their mother at birth, they can get them from walking near an area another dog/cat/rabbit (any other animal really) with worms has defecated, licking/eating something that had worms on it, or like your vet said - from being near a carcass... Heartworms come from bites from infected mosquitos. Intestinal worms are easily cured. A couple rounds of a dewormer and he should be good as new.... Are you using any kind of monthly heartworm preventative? A lot of heatworm medications also contain dewormers for common intestinal worms too - it's like killing two birds with one stone! |
Surely the above posts will help you feel better about it. Hopefully treament will clear them up right away. The worse something is for them to eat, the more they want to go after it and gobble it up:eek: . |
is your dog on a heart worm pill that also protects against intestinal parasites? if not, i would put her on Interceptor or Heartguard plus. this way you won't have to worry about the most common types of intestinal parasites because the once a month pill kills them. |
I know how you feel, but you shouldn't feel that way:) I self diagnosed, via the web, my daughter to have ringworm a few years ago & freaked out. I took her to the doctors right away & found that ring worm wasn't actually a worm but more of a rash...whew!! Point being...just as we people are prone to certain funky things, so are dogs. It just happens & is no reflection of our parenting:) |
