Yorkie Fly-Ball? I was watching Fly-Ball tournament on Animal Planet and started to wonder if there are any Fly-Ball teams for the smaller dogs who can't hold a full size tennis ball... Have you ever seen fly-ball set-up for the little ones? That would have to be the cutest ever! |
Do they have to give the ball back on those contests? Katy could play if that wasn't a requirement |
No they don't have to give up the ball at all! The race down a straight track with 4 or 5 hurdles and they jump on a platform that releases a tennis ball. The dog then has to get the ball and run back to you over the same hurdles. It's a relay race and there are 4-5 dogs in a team and they race another team to see which team can bring back the balls the fastest. Each dog get's their own ball. It's a really fast race and most dogs are Aussies. The smallest dog I've seen race is a Jack Russel. You can see it here: http://www.thepetprofessor.com/videos/ |
I was going to say that the smallest I have seen also was a Jack Russell. |
My agility club keep trying to get me to do flygility with the Dougal baby. It's a lot like fly ball except you do 3 / 4 hurdles and a tunnel then hit the ball flinger thingy and then race back through the tunnel and over the hurdles - they tell me that they do have smaller tennis balls for smaller pooches. There's a few YTers that do agility and I'm sure they can tell you about flyball in the States. Try gooogling it :D |
