Painful teething My pup just lost his very first tooth! He's 4 months old. I can tell that he is in pain as a result of his teeth. I've been trying to help ease the pain by giving him ice cubes to chew on and massaging his gums with my fingers and giving him lots of toys to put in his mouth. Are there any other ways to give him some relief? :confused: Luckily, he's still eating just fine. How long does this "teething" stage last for? |
My yorkie, Hobbs, stopped teething around 7 months. I wouldn't worry too much about it as long as s/he is eating well. Sounds like you're doing everything right! :thumbup: |
I am surprised that it is hurting your little pup. I always just find the teeth on the floor and the pups never have shown any discomfort. I do hope everything is ok with him. |
I'm so glad I read this post! I didn't think about them losing teeth and I would have panicked if I saw his tooth on the floor. My vet would have thought "what a kook" when I ran in with him and his tooth as an emergency! I give Max baby carrots from the fridge to chew on as well as peeled, cold pieces of apple. I have to try the ice. Someone told me to get him a teething ring, but there are enough made especially for dogs. Try a wet piece of toweling and freeze it also - although I stopped that because now he thinks all towels are his. There's also a toy called ? (I just went to look for it and, of course can't find it) that you wet and freeze and it stays wet and cold for a long while. Good luck. Judy |

He's scoffs at his Kong at this point! I feel so awful b/c he has double rows of teeth in some spots and the back of his mouth is just a mess of teeth! He's going in to get neutered on 9/22 and have some teeth removed. Hopefully it will bring some relief. In the mean time, he's likes his bully stick b/c he can angle it to the back of his mouth and I took an old cloth belt off of a robe and knotted it up and he likes to chew on that. My poor baby! |

Poor baby! I feel so bad for him. Hopefully pulling the teeth will help. That toy is not the Kong, it's called Chilly Bone - it's white cloth with some kind of filling and is shaped like a bone. I never thought of freezing the Kong - Max likes his with cream cheese in it. I wonder if dogs can have Orajel, or some other baby teething medication. Maybe your vet can tell you if you want to go that route. I hope he feels better real soon. Judy |

Kacee had a terrible time when she was teething. There were a couple of days that she mostly stayed in her bed all day. I remember she threw up a few times, too, and I mean she's never, ever sick! |

Have never seen any of mine experience teething pain, but teething does last until at least 7 months with Yorkies. Before giving Orajel, I would feel better about using Gumeze, it's an all natural teething product for babies and has no side effects (at least for babies). |
