orinskye these posts are general statements not directed toward anyone I am sorry you're taking opinions so personal. |
I think the statement may have offended those paying less than 1000. by unintentionally insinuating that a yorkie for anything less would be inferior and those over would be superior. I payed less for both my maltese and yorkie , they both came from reputable experienced show breeders and are beautiful examples of the breed. The price I payed for my malt was extemely low for the breed, I got a unheard of deal on him. Mia was the going rate for YTCA/Bluebonnet YTC chapter members in the DFW area over a year ago. |
In my area they are pretty hard to come by so I had to put a deposit on one before she is even born! I am getting her for 800 but the breeder always gets 1200 for them. she is only giving me this price because I am a referal from a good friend of hers. Back when I bought Shelbie 15 years ago 450 was alot, boy times have changed! :aimeeyork |
I merely implied a $500 yorkie more often than not may not be bred within the breed standard, often not papered at all and sometimes a real surprise when the pup becomes and adult. how many unknowing yorkie buyers go to a breeder because of their price (its what they can afford) the cute little pup weighing 2-3 lbs when you bought him or her grows up not to what you expected. There are quanitity breeders and there are quality breeders. Good example I went to "the Yorkie Meet up" here in Portland. There was a couple that had two yorkies there one was 3.5 lbs and the other was 14 lbs. BTW the 14lbs yorkie was actually a better looking dog with a very nice friendly temperment. The 3.5lbs was nervous, unfriendly and very gangly looking both are boys. I asked them if they searched for the larger dog they said no they had no idea that he would be that big nor were they told by the breeder when they bought him. At 8 weeks old he was 3lbs and they paid $1000 for the 14lbs the 3.5lbs they paid $2000. They felt they had pay more to be guaranteed the size they wanted. Another person had bought $600 for a 7.5 lb soft coat little girl from the third day of purchase to one month they incurred over $1100 in vet bills the little gal was operated on day 3 for a twisted intestine. The breeder stated she was NOT liable for the vet cost because it was not a genetic disorder she would give them another pup but would put this puppy down if returned. She pled on their guilt "to kill the puppy or not" over money. |
i woulnt pay more than 800 for any dog anysize im not rich i think the less you pay for the puppy the more you have to spoil it brownie is WAY! off standard but i think hes gorgeous and i would never ask for any other dog i did want him smaller but nobody knows ex what there gonna get i think everyone has different opinions on this and we all love our yorkies no matter what size or what they look like |
Reasonale price :) A reasonable price to me is 0$ to 700.00$ |
a reasonable price range to me would be 500-2000. Depending on the breeder, the dog and the area in which I'm buying from. |
Kim- I just wanted to say I think your prices are very fair. I paid 600 for my male but would have paid 1000. I paid 1200 for my female but would have paid 1500. I did not get any health guarantee. I just purchased from a local breeder but would do it differently if I ever purchased again. |
Thank You Thank you all for your advise. After I read every single one of your posts. Everyone had different price ranges which were very reasonable. So now I won't be stupid enough to waste my money on a $5000 puppy. :) |
not related.... i know this question isnt directly related to the thread, (about reasonable prices)....BUT...what is the approximate age yorkie's will STOP growing? is it after 1 year or 2? thanks. |
From what I have heard around 6mos they slow down considerably and stop growing completely about 1 year. |
My male was only $600 but my female was $1100 |
