Ears - Floppy/Erect?? My new lil' pup Roscoe is just 8 1/2 weeks old and his ears are floppy. I'm just wondering when other pups ears became erect? When we got Lily, at 4 mos. of age, her ears were up, never flopping over at all. Not that it matters, we'll love him the same no matter what, just wondering! He has a thick coat of hair, everywhere, and his ears feel much "thicker" than Lily's. He definately has a thicker coat than her. Roscoe's parents both have erect ears. Wonder if he will?? |
If you buy your puppy from a reputable breeder you will not pick your puppy up till it is at least 12 weeks. Buy this time the ears should stand or the breeder has ways to make sure they do. You do need to remove the weight from the last third or even up to half the end of the ear so that the weight of the hair does not pull them down. Debbie Ray www.sumtoiyorkies.com |
ceeby's ears were erect at six weeks when I picked him out. Someone has a litter for sale posted on here that are seven weeks and the ears are all up. My little pup was nine weeks with one ear up and one down. I shaved the top third inside and out and put masking tape on them both front and back then I took another piece of tape and taped it across from ear to ear. She looked like a little nurse or a tiara if you get the picture. It didn't bother her at all and I only had to leave it on for three days. You have to tape the entire ear and not just the ends. Most of us have to help our little ears. I, for one, don't care for floppy ears so if it doesn't matter to you then just let nature take its course . I wanted you to know there are ways to get them to stand. |
Chico's ears are mostly down...one more than the other. I also didn't know much about yorkie ears when we got him. Anyway, he doesn't like to have anything trimmed, so I just do the little I can get away with and keep them they way they are. |
