my yorkie doesn't want school to start! ok, so he doesn't know what that means yet :) but he won't like it! are there any other schoolteachers out there? i've had the whole summer off to spend with tucker and now i don't know how i can leave him alone when i go back to work!!! any ideas on how to make the transition back to spending time in his "room" instead of being out all day? |
Aww, Im sure he will settle back into the routine of you being at work within a few days. But how about you start putting him in his room/crate/pen for a couple hours while you are still off work, so that you can ease him back into it :) |
Can you come home for any breaks during the day? If so you can get him used to it that way. I know how you feel - I work all day and my baby is home all day by himself. I always feel so bad for him. I wish I could be with him more but I have to work to afford to spoil him - ha, ha! |
Back to school soon Hi, I am also a school district employee. Luckily I work part time 3.5 days/week. But, my husband is usually home by about 1:00 pm from work. I just got my first Yorkie "Lily" the day after school got out at the end of May, and decided to get another pup so she'll have a companion when the kids and I do have to go back to school next month. So, we just got "Roscoe" last Saturday!!!! Besides, we love Lily so much, we thought it would be great to have 2!! :2smileys: |

i, too, have to work to support my habit :) i'm addicted to buying for tucker! i need to go back to work so i don't have so much time to surf the net for goodies!!! lol |
I drive a school bus so I'm only gone 1 1/ 2 hours in the morning and afternoon. I'm home the rest of the time. |
They will be fine. They spend most of their afternoon napping. |
I feel bad, too. I do get to come home for lunch most days, so I'm lucky. But now I feel real bad when I can't do "lunch with Chico". They do take long am & pm naps and anyway, don't you get the best "welcome home!!!" greetings in the world?? |
Is here anyway you can disguise him as a student and take him with you. Maybe convince the principal that he is your class science project. |
I'm a school teacher! But, I would say I'm lucky. I live in the town in which I teach, and my parents live 2 minutes away. I leave Baby in the cage until I come home for lunch. Then I take her to my parents' for the rest of the day. :) Good luck! We don't start school till Sept. |
I'm a teacher too! I live 45 min away from my school. Luckily my bf is home most days. Last year a few teachers brought their little pups in to the classroom. We are getting a new principal, but hopefully we can all convince her that our pups are okay at school. :) |

I'm a teacher too. I just got a yorkie puppy yesterday. I plan on taking her to school with me. My principal won't mind and the kids will love her. |
Wow! What an awesome principal! How lucky for you to take your furbaby to school! I'd like to hear how it goes in school, later in the fall! |
I think that your little one will get back into the routine. Leave your radio on or animal planet. Baby loves to watch animal planet. When she hears a dog bark or other animal noise, she searches the house, top to bottom until she is sure its not in the house. |
Leaving Your Puppy Don't feel bad!!! Your not alone. I'm a teachers aid and have been off for the summer to. And I dread leaving Kahlua alone while I work!!! She hates being left alone. She cried during the school session when I had to go to work. I thought about her all day. It's like leaving your child home alone. When I would get home at the end of the day she would go crazy with excitement! You couldn't even pick her up because she would be so jumpy. Well at looks like were both gonna be homesick for our dogs together. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one in the same situation!;) |
i did take tucker to school a couple of times last year. the students absolutely loved him! we had a couple of half-days and i took him then. the school is also in the town where we go to the vet (20mins away) so i leave him with the family who had him first until i get out of school on the days he goes to the vet. the lady who keeps him usually brings him to the school a few minutes early when she has him. ton ton, i'm glad to know that someone else will be going through the same thing... maybe we should form a support group! :) and tucker loves country music, so i leave that on while i'm gone. ya'll are probably all right... he'll settle back into the routine. maybe i'm the one who'll have the problems!!! :p |
My husband is a teacher too and now he is home with Nikko. But when he goes back in Sept. Nikko will be all alone again. I try to leave lots of things for him to occupy his time. He gets locked in the kitchen and I leave out food, water, lots of toys and his kong stuffed with goodies. I know he won't be a happy camper the first few days but I think they get used to it. It makes us feel bad to leave him alone, but if mommy and daddy don't work, how is Nikko going to continue being spoiled the way he is?;) |

i'll have to get tucker a kong. we haven't tried that yet. he's definitely spoiled, though. so mom has to work! |
I'm a speech-language pathologist for a school district so I work the same schedule as the teachers. I won't be going back until the 3rd week in August. I also leave them all day because I don't live close enough to come home at lunch :( but they seem to be okay--just REALLY excited to see me when I get home :) . Last summer when I went back to work they seem to have adjusted. Even though they spent 8 weeks out and about all day, they seemed to remember the routine when I was working. It would be really nice if I could take them to work with me but I was only able to bring them in when the students were not there. Plus, I'd want to play with them all day so I'd never get any work done! |

a playmate for Kahlua will solve that crying problem and then you won't have to worry about her being alone ;) |
