Here with another question Would you recommend getting a puppy if you were pg? Or would you wait until after? |
Pg as in pregnant? |
Well I think it depends on you. If pg means pregnant, then think of it this way can you handle having two babies if you wait until after. Or can you handle a baby while your pregnant. Yorkies are kind of the same as babies they need alot of attention, care and love. |
I would get one afterwards. A baby is a lot of work too and having a puppy is just as hard. I would get used to having a baby around and caring for it, then when you feel you can add more to your plate, I would get a puppy :D CONGRATS ON THE Pregnancy!! Is it a boy/girl? How far along? |
I know a lot of people do it. If you have some time before the baby is due to get the puppy housebroken and in to your routine. I alos think a lot of people get a puppy then have as baby and find they don't have time for the puppy and the puppy suffers. So only you can decide if you can make the commitment now. Good luck with your pregnancy and with whatever you decide on the puppy. |
Yes I am pregnant. I am less than 2 months and am in such a situation. I have to decide by the weekend what im going to do. If I could housebreak the dog before baby would be great but I know there is no guarantee. I have waited so long for her and now I am so unsure. My son asked me if we can just get the puppy and not the baby :(. We have all looked so forward to getting her and now have to decide whats best and it isnt easy. Thank for the congrats. |
I would get the puppy now so you have time to potty train it before your baby is crawling on the floor. |
if it were me, i would wait .. these little ones need loads of attention and i think when your baby is born, he or she will need much more.. i think it would be too much for 2 babies at a time, but thats just me.... i would give my human baby all the attention he or she will need and then if you can work on getting a yorkie... you will be exhausted.. |

nope. wait. jmo : ) |
Kadrew - I had to laugh a little about your "pg" also...... meaning "PG" I though at first you were asking - Would you recommend getting a Yorkie if you were a "page?" Anyway - it might be best to wait - but if I wanted a Yorkie now, I'd go ahead and get one. Yorkies are so small - they certainly wouldn't cause a lot of problems that you might have with a bigger dog. And - if you get one now, it looks like you'll have 6 or 7 months before your baby is born. This should be time to get your little pup settled in your home and well on his way to being potty trained. I'm sure after your baby is born that you will have time for both your baby and your pup. After all, my neighbor has 8 children (several adopted), 3 dogs, 2 cats, and several other pets. And - they are all happy, healthy, and thriving!!!! Lucky them! PS: My babies slept a lot - and my little 10-month-old Yorkie still sleeps a lot. Carol Jean |
Congratulations on your new Baby! I can't tell you what to do, but this is my experience with getting a puppy when I was 5 months pregnant. We purchased a Sheltie for our two young sons. Beauregard immediately bonded exclusively to me. We lived in an apartment at the time waiting for our home to close so we could move in. So Beau had to be walked on a leash. Towards the end of the pregnancy I was pretty much on bed rest. It was very aggravating because Beau would do his potty business IF I took him out, but since I was horizontal for the duration, my Mom took over the duties. Beau would NOT potty for her, he would go for a walk but would not potty. Needless to say having the potty accidents in the apartment added unnecessary stress to an already stressful situation. :) If you decide to get a puppy now, then it would be in your best interests to work very hard to get the house training issues out of the way in plenty of time just in case you have to take it easy towards the end of your pregnancy. |
Honestly these puppies are babies and need alot of attention. I would wait. Best to you whatever you decide. |
I did'nt get a puppy while I was pregnant but I did when my son was 2 months old. Theya re both born on the same day :) I also thought it would be hard but it gave my youngest something to do when I was messing with baby she didnt feel so jealous and this baby slept soooooo much the first few months. Also I knew I would not be going for extended periods from the house after he was born so I had plenty of time to be home with the puppy. He is getting bigger and so is my skin baby No real problems in fact I would be afraid that if you decided no puppy because the baby was scoming that your child that is looking forward to a dog might resent the baby more for that reason. I dont know each situation is different but I havent had too much of a problem Bonnie |
