I am really serious about...... Opening a rescue. I have wanted to do this for soo long my husband and I have decided that that is what were going to look into. It breaks my heart that so many dogs are beaten, neglected, and so forth. About 2 weeks 8 dogs were taken from a town 3 miles away for neglect. 5 were emancipated and three were dead with maggots (sorry) in the friggin backyeard. Theres dogs here that are out in the heat and its just so sad. We have a animal rescue. I guess if they want to call them selves that. that have been around for 5 years and have a building in town here but no dogs , animals still die they claim the 100,000 that they have raised isnt enough! Thats a bunch of crap and so my faith in them have totally vanished. They used to get alot of donations in the beginning but now are not getting as much because they are not doing anything. I dont have a building yet but i am going to start taking animals and finding them a good home. Any advice or suggestions! |
i think that is a wonderful idea for you and your husband to do this. i think you both are caring people and i wish you luck... and i thank you for all the animals who need you.....  |
Way to go! Wishing you the best of luck in your efforts. |
That's fantastic for you !! IF I could afford it I'd really want to help do something like this - or take in dogs that need help. PM Cindy - livingdustmops - she has a wealth of info and I know will be happy to give you some pointers or let you know what's the best way to do this. She's a great person and knows alot about Rescue. |
I just feel this is somthing that needs to be done. There was animals to give away on the raio today. We have this radio staion where you can get on and advertise that your wanting or selling or giving away something and this woman has a german shepard momma and 2 mix puppys to give away so im going to go check it out!:D |

You can also set up in PetSmart or places like that. Bring a cute kid friendly dog and have information about the shelter and take donations. There are also companies that you can buy those rubber bracelets that everyone has for charities and sell those. You can have them engraved with the name of your shelter. If you do a google search for fundraiser bracelets, a million will come up. Good luck! Y'all are truly wonderful people! |
Good on you for thinking about those in need of loving homes!!! Wish you the best of luck and hopefully you get the funds you need!!!!!  |
That's great!!! Just resusing as many as you can helps!! |
Good for you!!! That is wonderful what you are doing!!! I too, want to have a shelter for dogs, a no kill shelter, and I plan on accomplishing this goal, but it will be in the future, I have alot of goals to accomplish before I can start a shelter. I wish you the best of luck!!!!!!  |
While I do think it is a wonderful idea, it's a HUGE commitment. For instance, what will you do with the dogs when you want to go on vacation? What will you do with a dog whom you can't rehome because he bites? (Apparently you can be held liable if a dog you rehome bites someone). I agree with the advise to talk to Cindy/LivingDustMops. She has 10 dogs that she has rescued and is helping an organization to set up their rescue program. Good luck! |
Ytsirk -- I, too, would like to hear Livingdustmops response. I'm afraid that even though you have the very best intentions in the world (they are wonderful), you may not realize what you might be getting yourself into. $$$ are certainly a part of this - but you need a facility - vet care - food - 24/7 care for these animals - what to do with those that might not be adoptable - spaying/neutering (or you'll be having puppies) - and a hundred other things that I'm not even considering right now. And - I wouldn't doubt that there are laws in your area regarding an undertaking of this sort. For instance, we can't have over four dogs (or perhaps three) in the county that I live in. I'm sure you may also encounter needing licenses - and will need to pay for these and possibly other fees as well. I also know that where I live - people cannot just go out and collect money or donations for something like what you're planning on doing. You'll need to check the city or county ordinances prior to trying to collect any donations for anything. ---------- I would suggest that you start with one or two dogs - take good care of them and find wonderful homes for them - This would be a wonderful thing for you to do - plus it would provide you with experience doing this. ******* You may be interested in this. Our humane society lets people provide foster care for some of their animals (sick animals that are being treated - dog and cats with babies - animals recovering from surgery, etc.) until they are able to be adopted. You would probably love doing this. **** I have to be honest with you - if a person came to me and wanted money to help take care of animals that they were caring for on their own in their own home - without it being a bonified licensed setup with appropriate facilities -- I wouldn't donate. I do give to the Human Society - I think a lot of us do. Best of luck - I know you can find some way to work with and help some of this unfortunate animals. Your heart is in the right place. What a tremendous thing to do. I really hope it all works out. Keep us updated. :) |
  I am amazed at some of the responses basically saying I dont know what i am doingor dont know how to:confused:  |

I'm so proud and humbled by your decision to start a rescue. I know it will take a lot of time, dedication and love. You and your husband will have a lot to learn and you will make mistakes as you move forward but I also know you will both learn from these mistakes and place each rescue in a loving and caring home. Take it slow and limit the number of animals you take in. If you have any doubts about taking the leap, you may want to consider volunteering for a local rescue first and learn from them. Your selflessness and love for Gods creatures is very commendable! I believe some comments were taken out of context. Everyone on YT cares, and I'm sure the comments were intended to protect you and not meant as a jab at you or your efforts. Good Luck and Thank you for taking this HUGE step! |

Ytsirk - I really went out of my way to give you a lot of credit and respect for what you want to do. And - just so you know - I think that probably people who can take an animal or two into their home and care for it can probably do a better job than the Human Society can do. And, for sure, donations" are a large part of anyone's ability to care for a lot of animals. If you an get a government grant (????) that would be wonderful. I mentioned several ways that you can work with neglected, homeless animals. There is always room for more help - and you have the heart and desire, and I'm sure you can do a lot. Please reread my post. I was only trying to give you a few things to consider - but in no way was I trying to discourage you from the work you want to do. If I were younger, I would love to take care of a lot of animals too, but I know for sure I couldn't afford it (equipment, cages, dog runs, food, vet care, etc. etc.) and I definitely don't have the right facility. But, if you can get all this together, then I admire anything and everything you can do. *** I will admit that if I saw you getting all this together - and it appeared to be a viable setup with an appropriate facility and the proper credentials - I would donate money to your efforts. I'm behind you 100% --- and admire your efforts - no need to be offended by anything I have said. I hope that you can do all the things you want to do. Carol jEAN |

In the post you are upset about, I only see care and concern for you since starting a rescue is new to you. It was simply an advise for you to take it slow and grow the rescue as you learn and to seek advise from people with experiance. I'm sure you are very passionate about this and read the post as a criticizim instead of advise. I hope when you go back and reread the post you will see it the way it was intended to be read. |

Awesome idea! You are doing such a great thing! I hope all goes well, and I hope you find many babies great new homes! |
Ytsirk - Thanks for your response. I am relieved to know that with a little more consideration that realize that I didn't mean to critize you at all. Again - I have nothing but respect for your dream. And - if you do start with only a few animals - I'm sure you will enjoy the success and sense of achievement that you are looking for. Good luck! you are such a good person! i hope everything works out and thank you so much for helping these dogs. animals need a second chance and thank you for helping them get that second chance! im supporting you!     |
