teeth Hi to every1, I was reading some of the messages regarding yorkies teeth. My puppy has got 2 sets of front teeth. His baby teeth have not fallen out. Is this common. I have given him all sorts of treats to help move them. |
From what I understand it is normal with the Yorkie breed. You did not say how old your baby is, but my Joey is 2 years old and I'm taking him in this Friday for a cleaning and extraction of baby teeth. I was waiting on them to come out on their own, but I really shouldn't have waited this long. |
:welcome4: to YT. I think it is common for yorkies to retain their baby teeth. Duke had his taken out 6 weeks ago. How old is yours? I think they should deffinatley have them out by the age of 2, so not to cause any problems with decay and bite alignment. Where are you in uk? I am in Hampshire :) |
Buddy just had one lower one removed last month, he is 2 1/2. The vet just pulled it out! The vet said if it were not removed it would cause gum problems. I brush his teeth daily so they did not need to be cleaned. It is my understanding that Yorkies do retain their baby teeth. |
It is normal. The vet may need to extract them if they dont come out on their own |
It's really common for small breeds like this to retain their baby teeth - Oscar looked like a shark (two rows of teeth) so at 7mths when i took him in to get neutered, they pulled 14 teeth... poor little guy. But it was better to do it that way (have him aneasthetized once rather than twice) than to wait and HOPE that they would fall out on their own - which they would not have. The roots of some of these teeth were an inch long and never would have come out on their own. |
Penny had to have four baby teeth pulled with her spay. We waited to see if they would fall out (putting off the spay a bit) so she wouldn't have to go under anesthesia more than once. |
All of Princess's baby teeth didn't come out until she was like 13 months old :) |
