went to first training class Well, Sparks and I went to our first training class. The instructor is very nice. She was eyeing Sparks the WHOLE time. She loved his energy and he was the easiest to train despite his HIGH energy. She said he is going to make an excellant agility dog and be a lot of fun too. He has a lot of personality. We learned, how to take a treat, dog greetings, sit with a hand signal, and basically teaching everything amist distraction. I've pretty much been doing all this BUT it is good to hear different methods to help me improve and enforce what I am teaching. There were some things I didn't agree with and won't do. She wanted me to ignore him when I come home (we had that discussion on another thread here)...no way...won't do it. I guess you just have to pick and choose what training methods you want to use. suz |

Great job Sparks!! I'm sure you'll love the classes. I just finished beginner agility classes with Jaxon and he did very well. I hope to start intermediate later this summer. |

We got Jaxon in mid January and he would have been just about 4 months old. I started him in puppy class around 5 months, then beginner obedience around 7 months. He's 10 months now and I'll probably wait until late August before starting intermediate agility (too many trips/holidays). I worked on tricks with him - probably about 5 minutes a day. Also we go for daily walks so I tried to get him to heel a little, but that's a tough one. He still isn't great on 'come' - only when he feels like it! :) Just keep at it - they are smart little guys but they can be stubborn. I found obedience class extremely frustrating but he proved to me in the end that he could do all the commands. |
