Moving into a new house, and worried about pup's reaction. We are going to be moving to another house starting on friday, and I am a little worried about how this will affect li'l pup Mia. I have some plans like restricting her access to the entire house from the beginning, which will be sooo much easier since she has an xpen. And I will start potty training her to go outside. I am just a little worried about how she will react to all of this. How attached do Yorkies get to the house they live in? Any ideas, or experiences? Thanks. |
WE moved when Remmy was 1 and a half years old. Never had any issues and he went pee pee outside like a good boy. I think as long as I was around he was happy! no worries. |
We moved into our new home we built June 1 and I had the same concerns you had because they had only known the apartment we were living in until the house was finished.Initially, I closed the doors to all the rooms so they could explore and they had a doggy door also so I let them go investigate their new yard.I spread puppy pads in the areas they were used to using and put their toys and food where they could find it.We did have some accidents but they are getting better and used to the new home.I try to be with them as much as possible to make the transition easier.Cathy and Yoshi:rolleyes: |
I haven't moved with Sissy, but I have two friends who watcher her at their house's for me when I went out of town and she did great with them, never having been to their places before. I think they adapt very well. |
Im having the same worries. Im moving into a townhouse sometime this week and Im hoping that Cali will be alright..let me know how your move goes! :D |
Sorry we had the house built then purchased Baby. We've never had to move to another home. I can't imagine being that hard, but you never know. Good Luck!!! |
We moved back in December and it wasn't a big deal. I did restrict access to certain rooms for a while until they got the hang of where they were to go potty at and which door to go to get outside- basically gave a refresher course in the house-breaking rules. I made sure they stayed either in the kitchen or with me for a few days, till they got the layout of the house down. Really the biggest issue was that they kept waiting to go home. (bless their little hearts... ) They would hang out by the door when they knew someone was leaving and they moped around for about 2 weeks! I still remember what a big event it was for all of us when they FINALLY starting playing with their toys and acting normal again. I think they thought we were just visiting another house and that any day we would be going home. |
I am sure she will be fine. I have moved a few times with Britney and as long as she has all her stuff and me, she's fine and it doesn't seem to phase her at all. |
We're moving too We're moving house September 1st and I am concerned about how Freyja might react. She has been learning how to use her puppy pads inside because we live in a second storey apartment. We are moving into a 2 storey house with a backyard that I would like her to use. I am also afraid of her falling downstairs. Any other suggestions especially about the stairs are appreciated |
Wow! We are set to move in September, too. I am actually looking forward to it. When I saw the house, I said, "Honey is going to love this house!":) The current owners had dogs and had part of the yard sectioned off just for the doggies. Sssh, dont tell anybody, but that was the deciding factor when it came to this house.:p I am excited b/c we will have a backyard. Right now, we live in an apartment style condo. So, I am curious to see how she will react to all of that yard to run around in. Plus, the house will have much more space than our condo. I know she'll love that also. |
