Retained teeth My pup is 10 months old and past due for being neutered. I put this off for a while because of his teeth. At six months, he had several doubles. But over time, he has eventually lost all of them. I noticed just the other day (at ten months), that the last one has fallen out. So, now when he gets neutered - he won't need to have any teeth extracted at the same time. I think I read in a recent post that someone's Yorkie just lost their last baby tooth at 14 months. I agree we should have them pulled if they don't come out on their own (which I was ready to do) -- but perhaps, many dogs just need a little more time. If we have a little more patience - perhaps we can avoid having to have their teeth pulled - plus save ourselves the expense. I can say also that Murphy's baby teeth never seemed to bother him - even though he had some doubles for quite a while. But - every dog's teeth are different (like childrens) -- so just use your own good judgement regarding how long you want to wait. Carol Jean |
Jack will be two in September and he had a double canine. I was planning to have a teeth cleaning and extraction soon. But the $250 price tag was taking me a bit to save up. I happened to look in his mouth to see the condition and it was gone. Glad to see we can save a couple of bucks now. He was neutered already when we rescued him.:aimeeyork I think patience is worth the wait. Now my Jill is 6 months and due to be spayed so I am facing the decision of what to do with her. She has not come into heat yet and her baby teeth have started to fall out.:aimeeyork |
My Joey (3 lbs 10 ozs) is 2 years old and still has some baby teeth. I tried waiting to see if they would come out on their own, by giving him plenty of chew toys, but they are still there. I've always brushed his teeth and taken care of his dental needs here at home, but it's time, past time. I take him in this Friday (14th) for a cleaning and to have the baby teeth pulled. I am so scared, but my Vet called me Friday and told me step by step the procedure, so I feel a LITTLE bit better. He uses the isoflourine gas and something to take the edge off before giving him the gas, no barbituates or anything harmful. I am still nervous about it all, but I'd be nervous if I didn't have it done and then he got sick because of infected gums or something. We Yorkies moms are darned if we do and darned if we don't, LOL |
Cali retained most of her baby teeth and just in the past 2 months 2 front top ones came out and she has a large baby molar in the back that is real loose. I am hoping with time a few more will come out. She 12 1/2 months old. They couldn't remove them when she was spayed because of problems with her regualting her body temp so they brought her out quickly. Good to hear that others have lost teeth at an older age. |
I am glad I found this thread. Siu Pao is 7 months old and a few of his baby teeth are still in and I can't exactly tell how many because he won't even let me open his mouth or stay still for me. How did you guys look in to their teeth because I can't get him to stay still, not even if I hold him! He just use his paw and kick on my chest and then I have to let him down or else he would fall! |
Rocky lost most of his baby teeth at around 5-6 months but 2weeks ago when i took him to get neutered he still had one and the extracted it. It was only $10 |
Maddie has to have two of the canines removed on the 26th. I'm so nervious. She is almost 10 month old and the vet had me wait for a while but its time to do it cause she keeps getting this gross stuff in between them. I brush every other day, but its not enough. They are in there solid. I'm scared but I know it should be done. She has already been fixed too. She had to have it done at 5 months because she had a hernia that needed surgery at the time. I just hate the tought of her going under again, but they too use the gas which is safer. |
