Help I need advice...!!!! We brought home Abbie on tuesday and at first Gracie was indifferent to her she hid on the couch and was truely afraid in the last two days Gracie has been aggressive toward her barking and growling (from the most part from a distance as she will not go near Abbie) She hates when Abbie jumps on her and then in turn will growl at her I step in immediately and pick up Gracie as she seems very afraid......I have been Gracie extra alone time and love what else can I do??? Help me please! Jenn, Gracie and Abbie |
It will probably just take time. What does Abby do when Gracie does that. Does she act submissive. Is she in danger, or is it all just noise. |
I would keep them separated and keep introducing them in short bits of time where it is supervised by you. I had to do this when I got Jewels not because Chachi was growling but because he wanted to play too rough for a little one. Gracie will come around she just needs time. |
Max was like that when we first brought Abbie home. It took about 2 weeks for him to warm up to her. I just made sure that they were supervised when they were together. Now, they are so attached to each other. |
When I brought Cali home Maya my 9 year old 12 lb cranky Pom hated her adn CAli woud jump on her and Maya would growl and snap a little but she has never hurt Cali and I just supervised and let them work it out on their own. Now unless a bone or cookie is involved they lay together and Maya seems to enjoy having Cali around. I am sure they will work it out |
I think that it is just alot of noise....like I said Gracie is actually afraid to approach Abbie...the only real contact they have had is one that Abbie has initiated.....Of course only supervised time together...I have kept my bedroom as a Gracie only zone so we go there for alone time. Thanks for all of the advice guys!!!!! |
Gracie sounds like Rudy when I brought home Polly and then Sprout. Rudy is the vocal one and if you heard him you would think he was going to kill them. Rudy is 9 lbs and Polly and Sprout are both less the 3 lbs. Rudy now lets them beat him up and he just lays there and loves it. The have a pecking order in the pack, once they understand were they are it will be fine. Out of my four the smallest Polly which is the third one I got is the alpha, it's so funny to see her boss the others around. Give it time, I know it's hard you don't want Gracie to hurt Abbie and you don't want Gracie to feel she isn't number 1# anymore. Before you know it they will be best of buddies, it took mine a week or so to get adjusted. |
I bought my second yorkie about a month ago and at first they were like that. I had them spend a little more time together each day and now things are great. I still don't leave them alone together unsupervised. Good luck I hope it works out |
My Yorkie Millie is like that. She will growl at Bonnie (my parents Yorkie) and looks like she's going to bite and we've always told her off. We've tried everything to make her stop but nothing has worked. Finally we thought about ignoring her and it worked! Gracie's nose is out of joint at the moment. She'll be jealous and she might be doing it for attention. You have to give them both time to adjust but the ignoring thing seems to have worked. Love and light, Chrissy xxx |
