Black light and stains Okay guys, I know many of you own a black fluorescent light. I just bought one of these at Walmart today. Granted, I have a very old carpet and have many stains on the carpet, not just pee stains. How does one tell the different between a regular stain vs pee stains? Or is there no way to distinguish between the two?? |

Thanks. Kate |
I have a Super-Walmart here in Poulsbo, Washington. You can find the fluorescent blacklights in the lightbulb section. It's close to the hardware department with the paints and car/cleaning stuff. And they are very cheap! I thought I was going to spend a lot of money for one. But mine was about $9 only! Definitely worth it. And if you do decide to get one, do not get the black bulb lights. It has to be the fluorescent black lights. Those work the best! |

Sadie does not wet in the house, but I thought it would be interesting to get one. I live about three hours from you, neighbor. Kate |

LOL! I guess I AM quick with replies huh? I'm a night owl. I stay up really late so I'm on the internet a lot surfing ebay or reading old posts at YT forum. I have never met another YT member that lives close to me! That's cool. Small world huh? :) |
We got a black light to clean the house too. I wish I knew how to distinguish between pee stains and other ones, but we just sprayed all of them with stain remover. I would love to know which one is which though. |
I am confused... I thought the black light made the "body fluids" glow.... So, wouldn't they all be pee? Try looking up one of those forensic science types and see what they say. |
i also have a black light but i have dark humter green carpet and to be honest i tried looking at a spot i knoe they went it and i can't see anything? |
 Do I really wanna know?!?!? ;) :D I clean my carpets regularly with a steam cleaner and comfort myself with the thought that's all it takes to have a clean carpet.... BTW I'm 55 and grew up in a house full of dogs and other pets, had dogs in my house all my live, let my daughter grow up in a house full of dogs and other pets and in a stable full of horses, goats and cats and let me tell you we all are healthy as the wellknown horse. Even when my daughter was little she was the one with the least colds, ear aches, tummy aches, allergies and so on compared to the kids of my cleanliness obsessed friends and neighbors. I just taught her to wash her hands very often and keep them out of her face and mouth. :aimeeyork |
When we found the stains it will only show up stains that have a ph.. like pee, salvia, germs etc. We thought some of the stains could be from my almost 2 yr old sippy cup... (wrong)... We tested this by putting milk, juice, and soda on the floor let dry and tested... Guess what... it did not show up under the black light. Therefore according to a chemist at hubbys work only something that has ph or grease will show up????? This lead me to believe that most of the stains I saw were pee stains... cause I sure hope no one is spitting on my carpet.. lol |
I used this stupid thing and almost become obsessed with it.. Bathroom was very clean showed nothing. kitchen was very clean, but showed up some grease stains on cabinets. Look around your lights switches and door knobs. Mined show some germs there. Wiped them down with bleach wipes and did it again and they were gone.. O and ck out the good old computer key board.... germs germs germs.. I know I am not the only one who has sneeze or coughed at the computer.. I dust over mine but never thought about using a disinfectant. Well guess what.... I do now... lol I think I now have ocd with my black light... |
