My yorkie is attacking other dogs!!!
 

I have 2 yorkies -- my 2 year old female is friendly and likes to kiss and play with other dogs. My 10 month old male yorkie (Tiko) is another story...only in the last several weeks has he started displaying aggression towards other dogs and strangers. I had him neutered when he was 7 months (b/c he started peeing everywhere). A few weeks after he was neutered he started this barking and growling and lunging thing at other dogs and people. The other day I stopped to talk to another person walking their yorkie and Tiko immediately attacked the dog - growled, lunged, jumped on the yorkie and so the fight started - we had to pull the dogs apart. Today I was out walking my dogs and a large dog left his yard and approached us. My female approached first and they sniffed noses, then the dog turned to my male who immediately snarled and lunged at the large dog's neck!!! The large dog jumped on my male and they were both snarling and biting. I had to bend down and try to get Tiko away from the big dog hoping I wouldn't get bitten at the same time. The owner of the big dog came running and pulled her dog away apologizing. I thought neutered male dogs were not suppose to be this aggressive -- what's going on and can I stop it???

p.s. he is so sucky at home (has to always be on my lap), likes to wrestle with my female, but always throws himself on his back so that she is on top doing all the pretend biting...hard to believe he's the same dog attacking other huge dogs!!!

My female Yorkie does the same thing! I can't let her near other dogs... I've posted a similar question to this and got lots of responses such as slowly starting to socialize her again to other dogs/people. My dog attacks most people/pets now and that's why I have to carry her everywhere and she barks at almost everyone... but the thing is..she is SOOO SWEET to everyone in my family!! I wish she could act like that with strangers and so I won't have to get paranoid every time someone comes up to her and wants to pet her..

One time in my attempt to socialize her more, my friend brought over his husky and yeah.. same thing happened..she lunged at it and bit the husky on its neck and the husky bit her back on HER neck!! I thought she was hurt!!! But no, THANKFULLY the Husky didn't bite back hard..

I think most people recommended for me to see a behavior specialist because I have tried everything in the book to get her to stop.. but I haven't found one yet.. they are all so expensive!!

Chester has been wanting ot attack other dogs, not all dogs as well just in the last 6 months or so. He loves other people and kids just some dogs, and not necesarrily big one. I dont know if he is protecting me or what. He was very well socialized as a puppy, he is almost 4 yrs old. Is that why they are called terriosts ha ha.

I believe it is a dominance issue. Which dog is the dominat one at home?

Mitzi is the same way and we actually don't really care. There are no dogs around she has to socialize with like family or friends dogs so we just pick her up when another dog comes along. She is nice with people although kind of reserved and shy. But she can be pet and with us she is just a big love muffin. :aimeeyork

I know exactly what you mean. Buddy has his friends and can socialize
with small dogs with no problem. Let him see a big dog and he get really
aggresive. It happened this morning. My neighbor has a pit bull and they
are really close friends but today he also had his daughter's malamute/husky
who's head alone is bigger than Buddy's whole body. He went nuts when he
saw the other dog. He is very strong (13.7lbs) and I keep trying to get
past this problem. Seems like it is only the big dogs that he does not know.
I have no explanation because I too am going through the same thing.

I believe with Yorkies it is more of a fear aggression situation that is going on.

Sorry I didn't get back to your replies earlier -- I was away from my computer for the last few days. I appreciate all your replies and definitely will start reading your suggested websites -- I don't think this is a problem I want to ignore b/c several times when I've pulled my barking Tiko back, or picked him up -- in his excited, snarling state he has bitten my leg or arm accidently (leaving bite marks, and twice bruises!) -- happened this morning when I was walking my yorkies - except this time Tiko started snarling at three women walking by who were commenting seconds earlier "oh how sweet... they're so tiny ...what adorable yorkies" until they saw Tiko growling, and snapping at them and sinking his teeth into my leg and me screeching "ouch"!!! (the women quickly moved on without further comments)-- if I can solve this problem, I'll share the solution with yorkietalk members.
