Either my house is spotless, or I didn't do it right... So I bought a little bulb holder and a black light bulb and I was using it in the dark to find the pee spots and I saw nothing at all. Now either I did something wrong or I have the best little pup in the world who never ever pees anywhere else but her pad (YEA RIGHT!!!). So what am I missing here? |
I didn't know that worked. Maybe you do have the best pup in the world! |
Well that's a given of course, but I KNOW the little stinker has peed a couple of times when I first moved into this new place and I know where but the black light bulb wasn't showing anything  Any ideas why? |
I don't know what to tell you. Are you holding the light close enough to the carpet?? When I use a black light I hold it about half a foot to a foot away from the carpet and I can easily detect the urine spots. |
Are you kidding? I went from a foot, to half a foot, to literally practically touching the carpet and nothing!!..lol..I know they are there..lol |
If you had it that close and it was really dark, then there is nothing. Trust me when I had Parker and did it.... It will show up like a neon yellow. I think you baby needs a treat and a new toy for being so good lol In the places where you knew she peed, you must have got it all up. Is your black light shinning up purple??? |
Yea just purple. I had to hold the light bulb real close to the carpet to even see the purpleness but I saw nothing...LOL..I just know she went there because I can somewhat see a little hint of yellow..lol..I just don't know how the light bulb won't show it..lol |
When I used my black light the stains would show up purple. You could tell that it was a stain and not just the black light that was showing up purple. The purple would show up differently when I found a stain compared to no stains and you could tell the difference, you could even see the outline of the stain. |
I couldn't see anything different. I just thought about it, do you think it makes a difference that it was a black light bulb vs. flourescent black light? |
I use just a regular fluoresent black light not the bulb. I think that it works better and is stronger than just using a black light bulb. So I would say that it makes a huge difference. I can always see way more things with a flouresent black light then just the bulb, I can even see dirt and link by using the flouresent black light. |
The regular bulb that is suposed to be a black light is ALOT different than the tube type flourescent black lights. Most likely it's not showing b/c of the type of bulb you used, try the other for best results. |
You said you know she peed a few times when you first moved into the new place. How long ago was that? I think (definitely not certain, though) that whatever it is in urine that shows up under the black light breaks down over time. Stuff is still there down in your carpet, but the surface has been walked on, etc. and the stains no longer show up. |

I bought black light incandescent bulbs a couple of years ago and they were so weak they didn't do a thing. The fluorescent ones are the best. My daughter has one in her room and at night, lit up, it's so cool. Also, remember that the light doesn't just show pee stains...it shows all kinds of stains and how you'd be able to distinguish what's a drink spill and a urine stain I don't know. I don't think you can really tell the difference. |
I've tried the black light regular-shape bulb in a desk lamp, and it didn't work ... even on spots I KNEW should glow. It might be the type of bulb, and from what everyone is saying fluorescent is best. |
