Worried about Bentley Hello again, Well I just wanted to let everyone know that I did get my little boy ( I actually got him yesterday - thursday seemed like eternity!) We brought him home and he adjusted so well. He is such a good little puppy. At night he cried for about 15 mins in his little bed, then he slept through the whole night. He's been eating well and going to the bathroom (he goes on the paper by himself) and he's just a loveable little thing. Right now we are calling him Bentley (because that's the name our breeder chose) unless we change it soon. Anyways everything was going great until we took him to our vet today for a checkup. The vet told us that one of his testicles isn't out yet. He said that it's not unusual for that to happen, but that it's not good (especially if he goes in to get fixed). Now Bentley is 3 months, and he said that it could come out any day now, but after 4 months it's rare that it would come down. Also he checked Bentleys heart and said that he seemed to have an irregular heartbeat but he couldn't tell if it was serious or not (he also said it could be because he was nervous and anxious). So we took him to another vet, and he had a ECG test, and the vet noticed that it didn't look 100%, but couldn't tell us again if it was serious. She said she was going to ship the results out and let us know in the next couple of days. Meanwhile, we don't know what to do! The vets both said if it was serious we should call the breeder and do something, since he does have a guarantee. He also said that we shouldn't have paid as much as we did (and we paid alot) because we would not be able to show him if his testicle does not drop (not that we would show him - but still). Has anyone heard of this or been through something similar? I hope Bentleys okay... Sheena |
Sounds just like that episode of Showdog Moms and Dads! You could massage the area daily for him, I believe that's the solution to that. Sorry to hear about his particular heart condition, I guess you need to wait for the results and then see what the vet says. Good luck! |
Awww, I am so sorry you are already having troubles. I pray that the heart ends up being nothing. As to the testicles, I too have heard that massaging them is the best way to go. Good luck to you and to little Bently! |
Bentley If you had bought Bentley to show then you have a problem..tell the breeder in any case. If the testicule has not dropped by neutering time, ask the breeder to pay for the "extra" cost to neuter him..only fair since it was not discussed before hand. If the breeder had checked the pup they would know about a missing testicule. Spunds like the breeder did not have the pup checked by their vet before the sale. As to the heart..you need to know 100% before the breeder can be expected to do something. You could return him, but if the heart is fine, the testicule problem can be fixed..quite frankly I do not think vets should be giving price advise after the fact...the pup is already purchased, what good can come from telling a client they paid too much..? |
Hefner came to me neutered because the breeder did not want to take the chance that her bloodline would be stolen or whatever! I paid a lot for him because he was a good quality dog and he was small. I didn't care that he was neutered. In fact, I was glad that I didn't have to deal with that! Chai was also expensive and she cannot be bred or shown because she is an unusual color and she is too small. It depends on what you want whether you feel you got a good bargain or not. I know that it costs a lot more to raise a tiny puppy than a normal size one, I know the toll the litters take on the mom and the long hours the breeders work with the litters after the whelping as well as the vet expenses and all. I also know that the amount you pay "up front" for the purchase of the puppy will always pale in compariaion to the costs of raising it with the vet bills, supplies, food, toys, grooming so I was willing to pay top dollar to get the best out there that fit the description of what I was looking for. I believe in the addage, "you get what you pay for". In your case, if the puppy has health issues, since you took him to the vet right away I am sure the breeder will pay the vet bills if it is something that can be fixed or will replace the puppy if you prefer that. He sounds like a great little guy and I wouldn't be very concerned about the testicle, but the heart condition may need a for sure diagnosis before you decide what's best for your family. Did you get a vet certificate of health from the breeder's vet? |
Talk to the breeder. Let her know what is going on , and once you find out more let her know. If your not showing and not breeding then don't worry to much. Congratulations on him. We will keep him in our prayers that he is ok |
Sorry I can't offer any help but I just wanted to say I hope for the best for you and your baby. I would def. contact the breeder just to keep them up to date so if there is a problem they have been along for the whole ride. As for how much you paid...seriously that is no ones business but your own. Obviously it was right for you and your lifestyle and that's all that matters. Again, good luck! Keep us posted! |
Im so sorry what is happening to your baby. I will have him in our prayers. I hope everything works out. Also you should contact the breeder.Good luck. |
