cat food my yorkie is getting into my cats food. He is very sneaky, does anyone know if this will harm him. Thank You |
:yorkietal Welcome to YT:yorkietal I would keep your yorkiekid out of the cat food. Cats and dogs have different nutritional requirements and your Yorkie will be much better off eating a high quality dog food. |
Cat food is not poisonous or anything, but it is much more fatty than dog food. It can cause harmful heart problems if it is eaten constantly as a main source of a dog's diet. Welcome to YorkieTalk! :) |
Well my cat's eat the dog food so mabey they will lose some weight lol |
Mine used to do the same thing. Vet told me it was bad because it contains more sugar. |
My yorkie will go after the cat's food if she gets the opportunity. Just try to keep it in a different room or put it up high somewhere so the cat can get to it and the dog can't. StewiesMom is right. Dog food is formulated differently and is more fatty which is okay because dogs are more active and burn more fat than cats do. To keep them healthy I would keep them out of each other's food. Good luck! |
I E-mailed the Purina Animal Food Company's vet and asked if dogs could eat cat food. He said - "Yes - they can. It won't hurt them a bit." BUT - it can cause a dog to become overweight - so, if your dog is overweight - he probably shouldn't be eating cat food. He also told me that cats should not eat dog food. There are things in cat food that they need. I had a puppy and a kitten who shared their bowl of Meow Mix for more than 10 years. My dog didn't ever become more than slightly overweight - and she was healthy her entire life. Of course - my dog and cat ate other things too - table scraps, etc. Carol Jean |
the cat and the dog are always in each others food. But I haven't noticed any weight gain in Jake though. |
My vet told me catfood is bad for dogs because it has too much protein |
I know my baby will get sick and have diarrea if he eats it...But he likes to sneak into the neighbors house and steal it every chance he gets... |
Rocky would eat my cat's food given the chance. I set my cat's bowl up on the spare bath's counter, that way Rocky cannot reach it. Well, that is until he figures out that he can jump on the toliet to get to the counter, but that das has not came yet. |
The highlight of mine going out to pee is hoping that the cat dropped a piece of food on the porch! I forbid it though...which makes it much more exciting for them. Anyway, not only is the nutritional value not set up for them, it gives them gas and the runs often too (no pretty words for THAT one! ). |
Cat food protein almost killed my friend's puppy. The dog, a sheep dog, eventually died around 2 years even after receiving care from a specialized vet. I think the cat food smell is a big attraction, at least it was for my poodle puppy. He got so he would not eat anything but it. Fortunately, I got his diet changed and he lived for 13 years. |
