Best way to weigh a yorkie
 
I was wondering what is the best way to weigh a yorkie? I heard the big pet scales at the vet are not accurate for the tiny yorkies. And my vet only has big pet scales I know other vets have small scales, but I like my veternarian. I also heard that a baby scale works good and gives an accurate weight, so I went and bought one. So, far it works but I'm wondering what types of scales you all use. Is there a better one than the baby scale? Any reccomendations are appreciated.

I use postal scales but I bet baby scales work just as well

Where can I get a postal scale??? Also another question on my scale it says 1.70, how do I convert that?? Do you know?? Is it 1 pound and then divide the 70 by 16, since there is 16 ounces in a pound??

Whatever works for you. We have antique shop scales that we've tested and found to be very accurate from 1oz up to 10 or 15 pounds. I just put a very large steel mixing bowl on top (that just happens to weigh exactly 1 pound), plop Bailey into the bowl, and there you have it. A big plus is that for some reason she doesn't squirm around in that bowl, so it's easier to get an accurate reading.

I don't remember who posted it, but the cutest weighing method that I've heard of came up in a YT post a little while back. they put their Yorkie in its harness, and hung the harness D-ring from fish scales. They didn't post a picture of the process, but I'd love to see that!!!!

I use a food scale (around $10.00) that has a bowl on top. It shows the weight in pounds and ounces up to 7 pounds. I can even use it for my adults.

If 1.7 is in pounds then you would take 1.7 and multiply by 16 which would give you approx. 27 ounces or 1 pound 11 ounces.

I have also taken mine to the shipping places and used their digital scales before I found such an economical one.

I bought a food scale at walmart for $8.00 it goes up to 7 lbs it has a plastic bowl you can use it's great!!:thumbup:

its been my experience, I have all three scales

Most digital postal scales only weighs gram and ounces, when it exceeds 16 ounces it automatically sets to lbs/oz's

when set on ounces it will give you an accurate weight without needing conversion.

Baby scales only come in lbs and ounces some require conversion

Digital food scales also most weigh in gram and ounces you just convert your ounces to pounds.

We also use a food scale but it's not digital.
The only hard part is that Angel moves around and it's hard to get a true reading. But we always "ball park" it and it is very close to her actual weight.
