Litters, this may be a silly question Ok now that I have to wait for my puppy to be born. Yet again my mind is racing. The breeder will call me to see the puppies when they are a week old and then I can pick out my puppy. Here is my question: How do I know which one is mine in 10 weeks? I want to pick out a small one but what if they are all the same size? I have read that some have picked out a puppy from a photo of a litter but how do you know that they have not been switched? For the breeders out there do you have a marking system? |
Yes, most breeders have some kind of marking system. You can paint the one's back toe nails that you choose. I've even seen it mentioned that they paint the nail polish right on the back of the neck. Some use rickrack, but I'm afraid of them getting tangled. It really depends on the litter size, sometimes you just have one girl and a big boy and a little boy so you don't have to mark. You're really not going to be able to tell a lot at 1 week, I have had them reverse in size from that point (biggest at birth become the smallest at 6 weeks). |
Hard to say. I picked the biggest out of the litter and she ended up being the smallest. Brownie had HUGE paws and just grew into them.:D |
litter It is so unfair to make you do this...they far too young. I never let people pick until 8 wks...then they could visit once or twice until 12 wks or so...if they didn't like what they saw at 12 wks, then it was off, deposit returned...what I do not udnerstand is why breeders want them promised so fast??? Yorkies sell at any age and circumstance, why rush buyers and perhaps force them into a pup who may not right for them...what if you do not like the temperatment/type/size etc at selling time..you might want a quiet one and get a hyper one...I would never buy a pig in a poke..good luck |
I just got my second yorkie and I went through a lot of different breeders before I found my puppy. I found that they put nail polish on the nail of the one you want. I personally would not look at them that young. At that age they all look alike. I looked at puppies between 8 and 12 weeks and I would never take one home before 12 weeks. Good luck!!! |
