My baby's here!! I'm the person who was treading dangerously close to stalking my neighbor breeder :) Any way, got my new baby, Trace, on Sunday. He is so dang cute and funny, BUT, (there's always a but...LOL) he does not sleep through the night. Tried ignoring the crying but honestly he can go for hours, finally broke down and put him in our bed....sigh. How do the 40 plus year old new mothers do this? Of course, Mr. Cutie is sleeping as we speak, under my desk. |

Congratulations and good luck with your new baby. My little girl also cried all night and I found myself getting up constantly. Needless to say, I dragged around all day afterwards (I hadn't gotten up with a crying baby since my youngest 25 years ago.) I spoke to my breeder and my Vet and both agreed, I put the create in other room and basically let her cry. Sure enough, each night it became less and less until finally now, when I start to shut off all the lights, she knows it bedtime and she walks over to her create and goes to sleep. The key is being consistant. She now sleeps in my room. |
take several naps..... |
It will take a while for her to get use to the new home. I found out that if I let Asia go to sleep in the chair with me and then put her to bed (crate). She would just lay back down and go back to sleep. It took a couple of weeks for me to learn this. If you let her get use to being in the bed with you it will probly get harder. congrats it does get better. |
sleepless in virginia He's already in the furtherest room in the house from our bedrooms. Any further and he'd be outside. I have been letting him cry. He cried for a solid two hours, and I'm not kidding. The problem isn't that he's not used to the crate. My breeder uses them. I can truly state I am "dead dog tired"....... |
Redfrog, I was thinking the problem was I had let him sleep in my lap while I'm at work, so yesterday I made him get inside his crate for naps. He didn't cry then, but we got up bright and early (4:45) this morning. I would prefer that he not sleep in the bed because we have an antique four poster that sits VERY high off the floor. It would be a long fall off. When I've put him in the bed he's between me and my husband to prevent it, but I really don't want him in the bed. We already have 3 cats in there and sometimes our daughter too, it's definitely crowded :) I did get tickled this am cause when I put him in the bed, he was so excited and immediately began giving my husband puppy kisses all over his face :D |
just to clarify He does go the sleep in the crate without any fuss. He just doesn't STAY asleep all night. Guess if you could nap any time you wanted, you'd be willing to party all night too...... |
Well.... my baby has always slept with me,,, I too have a high bed, which in this way was helpful: He was always afraid to jump off, so In the night when he had to GO he would sit on the edge and whimper,, and I knew it was time to go out.. So that was nice. Now of course the height doesnt faze him, but he still will stay on the bed and whimper when he has to go out,, rather than just go find a place! Thats my stay in the bed with ya advantage. ;) |
I'm one of the 40+++ mother's here. :D We got our first yorkie 16 years ago & after two sleepless nights, Mocha joined us in bed for the next 15 1/2 years!! I have to tell you I missed that little warm body at our feet when we lost her last May. We have had Kodah now for 3 weeks & I just always thought we would put her in bed with us, but when we went to pick her up & saw how tiny she was it scared me that we would smash her or she would fall off of the bed. So I got our hamper basket, lined it with a soft blanket & put her little bed down in the basket by my side of the bed. She has slept there without even a peep (except when she needs to go out). She does look up & makes sure she sees me before the lights go out! Occassionally, I hang over the side of my bed & pet her little belly when I know she's not sleeping & sure enough that usually knocks her back out!! |

Have you tried sound to keep him company? My father told me to leave on talk radio. I have a friend that her Pom. knows when she turns off the T.V. and turns on the radio he goes right to his crate. Dad also said that talk radio will teach them to ignoir other voices and only respound to yours. |
I don't get much more sleep putting him IN the bed because I'm afraid my husband, who sleeps like the dead, is gonna roll over and smash him :p |
When I first got the puppes and couldn't risk them going potty on the bed int he middle of the night I out them in a playpen next to our bed and put my arm in the playpen until they went to sleep which was usually right away. They had each other to snuggle with. Now they sleep with us. |
Congrats on the new puppy! I love the name Trace, very unique! |
Oh hurry hurry! Please post us some pics of the new baby! We are all waiting to see your precious new sweetie! :D |
