Help with my Dog I have a 13 yr old male that is fixed and a 1 yr old male that is not fixed. We are not going to get the 1 yr old fixed as we plan on getting a girl and having some babies. The problem I have is, Monday I took the 13 yr old, Corky, to get groomed, we had him shaved as he has congestive heart failure and he has a hard time with the heat. Anyway, my 1 yr old, Wynstn Too, is acting like corky is a girl and won't leave him alone. Corky is trying to fight him off but we have to put them in different rooms. Will he stop doing this, it has been going on for 3 days now! He is also "humping his bed" I am so embarrassed and feel so sorry that Corky can't be in the same room with him. We have tried scolding him and spraying him with a water bottle. Any suggestions PLEASE.. Thank You...Margaret |
I think it's usually a dominance thing when a male tries to mount another male. He's trying to assert himself as the Alpha male in the house. I imagine that this behavior may stop (eventually) as the new puppy settles in to the house and accepts his roomie. Poor little Corky is just trying to enjoy retirement and here comes this young spry little guy with other ideas! I don't know what to suggest other than what you're doing - he needs to be taught that his behavior is wrong, the same way we train them not to chew/bark excessively/etc. etc. Also... if you don't plan on getting your little guy fixed, I think that humping anything and everything is going to be commonplace at your house. Once he has been bred with your future girl, it'll get even worse. There are posts on here about having a stud dog as a pet, and it doesn't sound like much fun... not trying to discourage you though! Good luck with the little guys! |
I guess I would continue to scold him when he humps anything. Treat it as you would any other bad behavior. A swat with a paper towel roller, or a newspaper, might take som of the starch out of im. |
