Getting spayed tomorrow and ? Chloe goes in tomorrow morning for her spaying and to get her hernias fixed. I didn't get to talk to her vet, I will in the morning. So I asked the girl who worked up front what kind of anesthesia they used, and she didn't know. She said that they give them some kind of shot for that, not any kind of gas. Does anyone else's vet use this!? Just curious. Thanks |
My vet used something different. I think they mask them down. I am not sure of the name. He said it was much safer for smaller breeds. I am sure someone will know the name. I am not going to try for fear of making a fool out of myself. LOL! I think I would ask the vet directly. I just thought of something you might want to do for Chloe. When I took Sophie in I took a blanket that she layed with all the time to comfort her after her spay. Just to have something familair. You might want to take something that Chloe is fond of to put in her cage after her surgery. Just trying to help make this easier for Chloe.:) |

Taking the toy cat is a good idea. In fact before her spaying, our vet recommended taking her fav toy or blanket. I took her blankie. |
Does anyone's vet not use gas? I called today and they use ketamine! They said its not a barbituate and that it is very safe! Anyone's vet use this???:confused: |

I was told not to allow any anaesthetic other than Isofluorane and that oral anaesthetics or injected anaesthetics are not acceptable for yorkies as they are known to react badly to these other types. This is just what I have HEARD though... there are so many of us on here, surely not everyone's vet used Isofluorane. My vet did, and Oscar came through wonderfully - no reaction whatsoever. You should have a chance to speak to your vet before the surgery though and they should answer all of your questions. Are you having pre-op bloodwork done? Also a good idea... Good luck with your baby tomorrow! (I brought one of my old sweaters that Oscar liked to sleep on so it had MY smell on it as well as his - also, they brought him out all wrapped up in it when I picked him up and he was all groggy - sooo cute). |
Good luck with Chloe's surgery tomorrow. I have to face that next month with Kizzy. I hope it all goes well for you and I"m sure it will. They do this so much to puppies and I've never heard of any having severe problems with it. But that does not make you not worry about yours and I understand. I will too when it comes Kizzys time.
