New Member Hi Everyone! I am new here and hoping to get some advice. My 1 year old male yorkie, Cooper, had surgery for luxating patella 2 1/2 months ago. He was diagnosed with grade 4 and was in a lot of pain prior to the surgery so it was the only option at that point. He is not recovering very well and I am not sure what to do. For the last couple of days he is not putting any weight on the leg and seems to be in pain. I, of course, am taking him to the vet tomorrow but this happened a couple of weeks ago and lasted a couple of days and he was a little better. The vet said everything was okay and he probably twisted it a little. This time it seems to be bothering him more. My question is, since my regular vet did the surgery (he assured me he could do it) now I am wondering if I should have had an orthopedic surgeon do it and should I take him to one now. I feel so sorry for him and am worried sick about it. The vet put a pin in the knee but it has been trying to work its way out and will have to be removed in about a month. He said that might be what is causing the pain. He is the sweetest little guy and very devoted to me. I want him to be better and live a long happy and pain free life. If any one here has had similar problems please let me know how you handled it. I would hate for him to have to go thru another surgery but if that is what it takes, then I will get it done. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated. Thanks, Jank |
WELCOME! Poor little Cooper, I sure hope he gets better. I don't have any experience with this problem but it never hurts to get another opinion from a different vet. There is a wealth of help here for you and I'm sure someone will know more about it. Please keep us posted. :welcome4: |
Welcome! I am so very sorry that Cooper is not recovering as quickly as he should. The best advice I can give is to talk with your vet. If you are not happy with the vet you are using, then perhaps when you are over this crisis it is time to start looking for a different one :) |
