Can a male yorkie be in heat? I have a 10 month old male yorkie. He has always been a humper, but after I got him nuetered 4 months ago, he lost interest. He only humped once or twice after that. After he was nuetered he still got erections "lipsticks" when he was happy or excited. He doesn't get them anymore, even when he is really excited. All of a sudden he is humping his favorite stuffed puppy every night! He is panting heavily and appears exhausted. Is this normal? Can male puppies be in heat? Is there a hormonal cycle with males? Any info would be very appreciated.:animal-pa |

No, male dogs can't be in heat. I have seen dogs get neutered and lose interest for a little while but then they were back to humping and everything else. I don't know if this is the case with yours, but some will even hump objects to show dominance, I guess they have to feel they are dominant over someone, even if it is just a toy. Try taking the toy away to see if the humping stops, alot of the time this is all you have to do.:animal-pa |

If you want him to stop humping then you should take the toy away. My yorkie got neutered about 4 months ago, but the only time he humps is when he is around a stuffed animal. We didn't buy him any stuffed animals, but if we go to someone's house who has stuffed animals, Hobbs will hump them. It is not BAD that he is humping, but it can be embarrassing when you have company. So, if you want to stop this behavior, just take away the toy. |
I was wondering the same thing, Georgie is not neutered (scheduled for next Tuesday), but the past couple of days he has been humping like a wild man. And his poor victim is our 80lb Boxer Coco who just lays there like "Please leave me alone.":eek: |

After the surgery, keep the stitches clean - no baths. Give him bland food like eggs or cottage cheese for a couple days, the anestesia (sp?) might cause nausea, this might help. Give him lots of love and don't encourage him to play too much. You'll do great, you sound like a good mom. |

Google has a stuffed porcupine doll with a rattle inside that is his favorite toy to play catch with, and it doubles as his favorite "hump toy" too. Tootie does it too.... when a human person is "in heat"...... he is horrid when it is that time for my daughter... he gets fixed tomorrow, poor baby.. and my daughter has a male friend who he humps on everytime he is here.... |
Harley wanted to hump my husbands arm every morning :>). We had him fixed 3 months ago and he has lost the urge to hump. I had a hard time leaving my baby for surgery though, I cried when I left him. He ended up coming home the of his surgery because he was unhappy at the vet. He was real lethargic when he came home but it wasn't long before he was back to himself. Within 2 days he was back to normal (or he thought he was). I was constantly having to stop him from jumping...he's very hyper. I think your baby will do fine. |
It's my personal opinion that dogs hump because it feels good, though they are less likely to hump someone they consider a higher ranking pack member. If it's a toy, it's not a dominance thing any more than it is for little kids who do shall we say, similar things. I think this is why dogs may stop humping after being neutered and then start up again. At first, it's being driven by testosterone and horniness, and then the dog discovers, hey, this still feels pretty good! I don't think there's any harm in letting them hump toys, though maybe you want to put them away when you have company! I will admit that Thor doesn't hump, so it's easy for me to give advice. He does sometimes give his equipment an extended tongue bath, though. |

I don't really care - I let him. With Jackson, I don't think it's a dominance issue because we practice the "dominance" routines quite a bit and I think he knows who's boss (me! lol) I think sometimes they just.... like it. Ha! |

Not really "heat" but they dogs do like to hump...for mating, for pleasure, for dominance, out of boredom, for fun???? My spayed female Jack Russell loves to hump certain stuffed animals. It is sort of funny. She does not do just any stuffed animal. Occasionally one will take her eye and that toy will get no mercy. But if I put it away, she stops the behavior until another happens to catch her interest. My girl's no tramp, she's selective. :rolleyes: |
We havent had this problem with Laddy so far and he is still intact. I have been putting of his neuter until he was larger also he isnt 3lbs yet and I had read on here that they dont always do well with anesthia when that small. Is this true? I dont want to risk his little life. Would rather put up with the humping. |

I have a question. I am getting a male puppy. He is 15 weeks old and my female is in her first heat. Can he be near her? Or will he try to do the deed with her lol. I can keep him seperate but I was wondering because I'm not sure if he will have the urge because he is so young. I hear when they're young they don't until "puberty"? If this is true when is puberty. How do I know? Any advice? Should I keep them seperate till her heat is over? I will get them both spayed and neutered but I can't as yet she is in heat and he I haven't got yet lol. |

The title of this thread made me giggle... :p As for your male, I would definitely keep him separated from your female... Don't want to take any chances! I hope you get your female spayed asap after her heat. |
