This has got me worried! There was a post about hernias and now it really has me worried about Chloe! She has two hernias by her back legs. When she got her shots the vet said it was ok, they would probably go back in on there own. If they didn't then they could do it when she got fixed. Well I didn't want to get her fixed b/c she is sooo small I am scared of her getting the anesthesia. Anyways, she will be 8 months old in a few days and those two little hernias are still there when you hold her up! I didn't think they were a problem but that other post has me all worried. Are they bad hernias that will hurt her, or do they still have time to go back in or what? Someone please help with my concern!!! |
Anybody have any experiences with this?:( |
how much does she weight now? |
3lbs. 12oz. almost 4lbs! If I can get the surgery done this week I would like to before we go on vacation! But I am scared of the anesthesia!!! |
Can anyone tell me around how much it cost to get a puppy spayed and the hernia fixed!? |

she'll be fine under the anesthesia. she's plenty big enough. she'll be monitored and cared for throughout the whole thing. get the surgery done as soon as possible |
Thank you for responding!!! Do you think I could call the er vet or just wait till tomorrow and get ahold of her vet at the office? |
Don't go to an ER vet this can wait for your regular vet. It is called a bilateral inguinal hernia. There is a danger that they can become what they refer to as strangulated which is a very serious matter So they do need to be closely watched and repaired eventually. I would think at 8 months they're not going to close on their own. Prices vary so much from location to location, but they can do the spay and repair at the same time so it will be less expensive to do it all at once. She should be fine at almost 4 pounds just make sure they are experienced with small dogs and use a safe anesthesia like isoflurane and no preinjection barbituate. A bilateral hernia it is a genetic default and the dog shouldn't be bred so as to pass it on, but also it can reopen and cause problems during pregnancy and birth so I would definitely have her spayed. Thank you soooo much!!! :ghug: That is a great link! And I never planned on breeding my babies! That is something I will definitely let the professionals handle!:D |
My baby had 2 hernias (bilateral inguinal hernia). One of the reasons really why they sold her so cheap. I had read about them so I knew they could be operated on so I got her anyway. She was spayed 9 days ago. The vet has originally thought they would also have to operate on them, but by the time surgery time came they seem to have fixed themselves so additional surgery. She will be 6 months tomorrow and weighs 3 lbs 3 oz. She made it through surgery just fine. |
This advice is making me feel sooo much better!:) I still am worrying but I definitely don't want anything happening to her b/c I was scared to have it done! She is will be 8 months old in a few days and I don't think they are going to correct themselves. I am calling her vet in the morning for an appointment hopefully by Wed. we can get it done! |
