Megan a mummy! You remember me posting about Megan our 9 yr old Yorkie who had a small "love affair" with Paddy our 10 month old Yorkie???? Well he went to the vets to be sorted and I posted on here about how worried I was about her being pregnant, well we took her for a scan this morning and she is expecting 3 or 4 babies! They said feed her puppy food and start to get her wormed every day soon, she is due in 4 to 5 weeks. They said she should be ok and if she appears to be struggling in labour then take her in and they will do a c section. Any more tips now as Ive never done this before and didnt plan too!!!! But we cant wait now!!!!! :aimeeyork :aimeeyork :aimeeyork :aimeeyork !!!!!!!! |

some how you have misunderstood your vet regarding worming, you NEVER worm everyday. You worm a pregnant mom ONE TIME about a week before she whelps. Start adding puppy food to her dry food diet about week 5-6. Add natural calcium and protein (cheese, cottage cheese, chicken, eggs) hope this helps and good luck |
Well I hope everything goes well and DO not worm her everyday she does need the calcium and puppy food that is real important. |
Congratulations to you, Megan and Paddy! Keep us posted how she is doing. |
Ah, the May/December romance!!!!! Best of luck with her delivery... she is quite old for a first time mom but I am sure everything will be just fine. Keep us posted.:) Congrats!!!! |
Thanks for all that, the food we give her is bakers complete puppy food anyway so no change there,as for worming every day that is what the vet and nurse told us,from in about a weeks time everyday until 3 days after she has the pups, but now you guys have said DONT!!!! I will clarify it with the vet. Im really worried about the birth,we said we will set our alarm every couple of hours in the night nearer the time just to check on her. We dont know if this is her first litter as I got her when she was 6 with no history (the family wernt very nice and claimed she was their grannys dog who had died). She is supposed to be registered but the people couldnt find her papers and said they would send them on to me,they never did but as I just got her as a family pet I wasnt bothered. Well Ill keep you posted! :) |
I thought the worming every day was a typo!!! Please call your vet and make sure the wormer you are using is safe for pregnant moms. I have never heard of worming every day. Here's a great link. Read as much information as you can so you will know if there is a problem. Begin taking her temperature at the same time morning and evening around Day 55 and you should be able to predict when you need to be on the alert. After reading the first part of the link go down and continue clicking on the subjects, it will take you all the way through weaning the pups. http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/breedingpregnancyguide.htm www.debbiejensen.com is another great site. |
I found this on a UK website so maybe its a UK thing?? Pregnant bitches are a source of worms for their unborn pups. To limit this as far as is possible we would advise the use of Endorid from day 40 of pregnancy until two days post whelping and then fortnightly until weaning. This protocol should be discussed with your veterinary surgeon at the prior to mating examination. |
Well Im going to ring the vets Monday morning anyway, they even told me that it would be a liquid wormer. Ill tell them that I have a few concerned friends! Im going to read the stuff on the website you reccomend now, thanks! |
