Barking! I love Diesel to death but his barking has got to stop! He barks at any and everything. I know some people use the barking collars but I just can't see doing that. I had thought about the citronella collars tho. Since switching his food he has just perked up like crazy! He is acting more like a puppy and he will be a year old next month. I am open to any suggestions! Michelle |
I have heard that some dogs just like to hear their own voice so maybe he is barking just to be heard. Sometimes when a puppy first discovers his/her won vice they will bark a little more than usual. Or maybe he just loves you so much that he is trying to communicate with you. I know this sounds crazy but maybe the next time your puppy barks you could try walking around with him and asking him what is the problem. After a few rounds around the room looking at everything maybe he might get the picture and only bark when he has something intelligent to say. LOL! Our pups used to do that and my husband walked around the room with Sonny asking him what was wrong and showing him everything was okay and now he doesn't bark unless he is playing, wants to go outside or if something is wrong like someone is at the front door (or cat at the back door) or if my candle drips into the floor. Now his bark has become a communication thing. |
I used the citronella collar with Gracie and it worked really well. They have to be 5 or 6 lbs though. Gracie's collar isn't working now and she has gone back to her barking ways. I am going to start trying to teach her to speak on command because I've heard that's the best method to get it under control. |
He barks anytime he thinks he hears a strange noise. When he hears our shepherd barks at something he sounds off as well. Our shepherd only barks when he feels he has to. Diesel will bark at dogs on tv all the time. If he hears another dog bark he sounds off. I have tried walking around with him lol. He will just prance around like he owns the place. His tail will be straight up and his ears stiff and he barks even more. Oh if my daughter is playing with him and he wants back up he will come to me. The minute I pick him up he acts like he is all big and bad. He isn't fixed and I am wondering if he feels like he is the "alpha" male! LOL He has never bitten anyone but the shepherd on the nose! The shepherd just shakes his head and ignores him. LOL When Diesel gets to acting to big our Shepherd will put a paw on him so that he can't go anywhere. LOL Then he starts to lick all over the Shepherd's mouth and nose and teeth.. It is too funny. I might give the citronella collar a try. Michelle |
I have heard that you should teach them to bark on command, and then teach them to stop on command. Then when they bark you have a command that tells them to stop. I've also heard that a dog that barks at every noise, does so because he does not feel that you are doing your job of protecting the pack. He does not see you as a pack leader, so therefore he is taking over the job. In that case you need to be more assertive so he knows who is boss. Chachi has just started barking and he barks at every noise. I'm trying to nip it in the bud before it becomes a problem. I cannot stand a barking dog, mine or anyone elses. |
I believe it's called Little mans complex... LOL! Casper barks like crazy when he is around people he dosen't know. Especially men LOL It was cute at first but not it gets out of hand. I have noticed though that since we have been taking him out more lately he's been a little better. My boyfriend and I went to the lake last Saturday and took Casper with us and he was the best boy i was so proud of him! Especially since there was a little Pomerainian (sp) who was barking and barking at Casper and all he would do is wag his little nob and try to be friends with him... :p |
Mine barks non stop a well. Especially when he see something move, or nose or just wanna play and looking for attention. |
I trained my Chewy not to bark at all. Now there are certian times he does: When he's playing with other pups that are Alpha dogs, hears something strange outside - like the fireworks tonight!, or when he is left alone ( but I'm with him all the time so that almost never happens). When we first got him and he would bark, we would right away do the "No Bark" command and using a water bottle on him at the same time - he learned pretty quick not to bark. |
Emilee is my barker and bark she does. She gets all the other going otherwise I don't think they would bark much at all. Now Izzie is 22 weeks old and she's starting to act like her mother. I'm trying to get it stopped, but so far not having much luck. |
