Toto loves Bananas & Carrots
 

Toto loves Bananas & Carrots I gave Toto a piece of banana and he loved it. The other day he saw a banana on the counter and he was jumping up & down trying to pull it off the counter. My vet said its ok to give bananas but how much are you allowed to give them. Can it effect his digestive system? Does anyone else give there babies banana? :p

It's funny that you posted this cuz I just posted about Pita liking carrots! I will try bananas today!

I can't see how bananas would hurt if carrots don't!

My yorkie has eaten bananas, grapes, apples, oranges, tomatoes and baked salmon. He loves it!

Grapes and raisin poisonings in Dogs

Recently, there was a letter in the AVMA Journal from Dr. Gwaltney-Brant and
others at the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center discussing grape and raisin
poisoning in dogs. Apparently, grapes and raisins can be toxic to dogs when
ingested in large quantities.

The grapes and raisins came from varied sources, including being eaten off
the vine directly. The dogs exhibited gastrointestinal signs including
vomiting and diarrhea and then signs of kidney failure with an onset of
severe kidney signs starting about 24 hours after ingestion of the grapes
or raisins. The amount of grapes eaten varied between 9oz. and 2 lbs., which
worked out to be between 0.41 and 1.1 oz/kg of body weight. Two dogs died
directly from the toxicity, three were euthanized due to poor response to
treatment and five dogs lived. Due to the severity of the signs and the
potential for death, the veterinarians as the poison control center advocate
aggressive treatment for any dogs suggested of ingesting excessive amounts of
grapes or raisins, including inducing vomiting, stomach lavage (stomach pumping)
and administration of activated charcoal, followed by intravenous fluid therapy
for at least 48 hours or as indicated based on the results of blood tests for kidney
damage.


I have fed my dogs a few grapes every now and then for years, so I don't think there
is a need to panic if a dog eats three or four grapes but if the whole bunch is missing
from the table one day, it would be good to think about watching for any signs of a
toxic reaction.

We've given him two grapes so far. Exactly two grapes. Guess we will not be doing that anymore.

I have never given toto grapes to afraid. But he also loves zucchni (don't know how to spell it), and honeydew. My mom once gave him a whole banana.

My Honey goes bonkers over apples we can't eat them without her sitting like a good girl in front of us and "waiting" for a bit (but no skins, of course!) She also loves cold, canned, unsalted green beans so much, we put one or two in with her dry food and sprinkle a little of the juice on the kibbles. She always goes for those first!

From what I understand, Carrots, Bananas, Apples and other fresh fruits and veggies (no grapes or onions), are fine as long as given in moderation. When feeding your dog these treats it is nevertheless important to keep a good eye on their stool, as it is possible to have soft stool as a result of all the fiber found in the fruits and veggies. As long as everything is fine in the elimination department, Bananas and other fruit are great!

I find apples and bananas are great when i am trying to train my Kiwi.

Beau loves carrots, bananas, green beans too.
