Couple Questions? Do you all pull the hair out of your dogs ears? I haven't done it. I tried one time, but he acts like it hurts him real bad. The other question I have is, does any of your yorkies like the beach? I'm taking him to the beach over the weekend. Thanks |
Yes, you should keep the hair out of their eyes, either by putting in a topknot (ponytail) or keeping it short. Remember that sand gets pretty hot so protect your little one's foot pads with shoes or you can make some with baby socks or newborn baby mittens and attach a strip of velcro to keep them on. |

The groomer does........yes, she takes care of that with Reese :D |
Sorry, I'm getting on up in years, maybe I need to make an eye appointment! I was wondering why she said it hurt the dog! I don't pull the hair from my Yorkies ears and have never had an ear infection in 25 years, but I do know they sell a powder that helps with gripping. I will note, my Mom has Malteses and the hair actually grows down the ear canal and requires pulling. |
sorry but no, i've never pulled kizzys ear hair and I wont. If they need pulling or she has a problem with them I will take her to the vet. |
I have had yorkies for close to 20 years and have done my own grooming and have never pulled the hair out of their ears. some breeds might need it but as a rule yorkies do not, unless you have problems with ear infections. |
my groomer does it, she puts some powder stuff in there first.. not sure why, but the ears remain very clean this way... My babies havent been to the beach but love to play in the sand box... its really cute |

Brownie's never had the hair pulled from her ears and has never had any problems. But I heard that if hair isn't pulled, it could cause problems, like ear mites that stick to the hair inside and you have to take medication or drops. As for the beach, I took Brownie there once and she hated it, all the sand getting into her coat and she refused to go in the water. She had lots of toys, food and water, but she just sat in the shade the whole time panting. We left after about 2 hours.....:( |
Isn't it just if the hair grown down INTO the canal that it needs to be pulled? But not if it's growing up OUT of the ear? ??? |
my mom has a snouzer and i took him to get grommed they pulled the hair out i felt so bad for him but he had those fox tail things in there and she said if you don't pull the hair out they can go into the brain and kill them i guess it just makes it harder for the weeds and stuff to get in there.:D  :animal-pa |
My girl loves the beach!Mind you it is winter here and not hot! You have to keep walking! She loves to run along the sand and chase the gulls and sniff everything and meet other people and dogs! She will paddle a bit,but isn't overly keen on getting too wet-maybe in summer. It is a joy for both of us! |
