When can we take our first long car ride? My parents, sisters, grandparents, etc. live about 3.5 hours away, and I was wondering when it would be safe to take my little girl to visit them? Everyone in my family are big time yorkie lovers (altogether, they all have 6 yorkies  ) and they are just DYING to see her! :D She is 8 weeks old, so, how long should I wait before I take her to see them?! Thanks for your help! :D :p :animal36 :animal-pa |

since she's only had one puppy shot, i'd wait until she's at least had two before you take her anywhere. Even tho you know your family's dogs are up to date on all their vaccines, the puppy can still pick up something outside. best to wait another couple of weeks |
Okay, here goes. Keep that youngun home til she has had ALL of her shots. And, til her immune system is developed enough to fight off any "bugs" that the others might be carrying that do not affect them but could cause real problems in young puppies. I am speaking from experience--I am dealing with Giardia--Never, never had it in all my years of breeding but I decided to take my 4, 15-week old Biewer babies out in my own front yard in an Xpen for different scenery..BIG mistake. They contracted giardia and it is miserable for them to have the runs and for me to treat them with the meds PLUS clean EVERYTHING with bleach water and keep them away from the others. Hand sanitizing companies stock has gone up 10 % just from my purchases!!!! LOL Seriously, we do have to be careful where and when we expose these babies to other critters. Your relatives will understand that you are just protecting your baby... |
