Hailee's Shots! OUCH! I have a precious 15 wk old baby by the name of Hailee. Well, she was with her breeder for her first 3 shots. Yesterday, we took her for her 4 mo. shots and check up. That poor baby was fine in the drs. office, but a few hours later, she cried and screamed when we tried to pick her up. I called the vet and he said he could giver her something for the pain if she was still suffering this a.m. Well, she was better this morning thank God. She is little, barely 2 lbs. The vet said the little ones suffer more with their vaccinations. Has that been the experience with those of you here on the board? I was not prepared. I felt soooo bad for her! |
My vet used a kitten needle to administer his rabies vaccine and he didn't even feel it - no reaction or pain afterwards at all. He'd had all of his other shots prior to me getting him, so I don't know what happened with those. Maybe in the future your vet could use a smaller gauge needle too? |
I had the same thing happen. Our guy was 17 weeks when we got him. Oh, did he cry when he got his shot. We couldn't pick him up for 2 days, and even a few days after that he was still sensitive about it. I'm dreading it, because I have to go back next week and get the 2nd part of his lyme disease shot. Yes, Dennis was fine during the shot, but a few short hours later he was in pain. He wanted me to pick him up but every time I did he would scream and run away. I think he thought I was intentionally hurting him, which broke my heart. I called the Vet and they said to give him a half a baby asprin. The next round of shots they gave him a whole one and he did a lot better. I hope Hailee feels better soon. |

Ask you vet to use to smaller needle and that might very well help with the pain afterwards. |
