I may regret this one day But I don' t think I can do it right now! Here's the deal, Last week at the dog show by my house I was talking to a Lady who was showing her dog. I asked if she ever had older puppies or young adults for sale. She said I have the sister to the dog she was showing. She is 13 months old, cuter than the one she was showing and was showing her until her bite went bad. She want's 2000.00 for her. She is not spayed yet, is in full show coat, pretty well pee pad trained and healthy. Ist I don't want to spend 2000.00 right now and I am worried about bringing in an adult with Maya who is just tolerating Cali. I also worry about Cali acting out with a new one in the house. The breeder called me last night and told me that the dog is at the other Breeder's house right now who is Stilton Yorkies, a pretty well known name around here, and to call her and let her know if I am interested. Also I am getting new carpet throughout the whole hoise in 10 days! I am so torn but realy think the time is not right. I just needed to put my thoughts down! |
Oh wow thats a tough one $2000 is a lot of money, but I bet she will be worth every penny. Its always hard thinking about bringing a new puppy/dog into the established family, although cali will get use to her im sure. As for maya we better hope the new girl doesnt go under the bed :p :D But all joking aside you have to follow your heart, can you wait or do you have your heart set on this one? good luck :) |
sounds like a really tough decision! |
Hard decision! I cannot tell you.. what to do!! :) You have to figure it out!! :D :D :D :D :D If you miss this chance, the chance will come up again :) |
Hmmm... that is a tough decision, only you will know what to do. It's hard to say "no" though  |
Tough decision ! IF you decide to go with this female - DELAY the new carpets !! :p :p That can wait till you see how everyone does - She sounds really pretty :) but Think very hard about the dogs you already have.... and your heart will tell you what to do. |

I think that Cali and Maya could definately adjust and the new carpets could definately be delayed. I think the main question would be, can you afford to spend $2000 right now? If the answer is YES, this would be a hard opportunity to pass up. She sounds gorgeous and I am sure you would enjoy her. Good luck making a decision and please keep us updated on what you decide to do! What an exciting decision to have to make! |
You could...... take her home and see how everyone else feels about her. There's nothing worse than thinking you really want a new dog and you get her home, and lo and behold NONE of your other dogs even like her!! Then you feel guilty because you were the one that wanted her. They didn't want her. So you decide that they'll "learn to love her". So, for a few months, you try your best to get all of them to get along. If it doesn't happen, then you have to decide how to find her a new home. Then you feel guilty again, because you were the one that wanted her. Hopefully, you find her a nice new set of parents and she lives happily after. Or....you take her home. The other dogs go whacko over her!! They seem like they were destined to be together. Like they all grew up with each other, and life is good!! The guilt turns into pride, you can pat yourself on the back because it was your idea in the first place!! Good luck with your decision. Suz |
I think $2000 is a little much for most people to pay for a pet. And, with a bad bite, that is what she is --- "pet quality" -- shouldn't be bred and can't be shown. I know so many people who have absolutely adorable little pet Yorkies - who didn't pay nearly that much. I really don't think you need to. I'd shop around a little longer. I paid $850 for my Yorkie and $1100 for my Bichon - and they are both "pet quality" - but good examples of their breed - and are both totally absolutely wonderful pets. I'd like to hear from some of the reputable breeders here on YT - about how much they think a person needs to pay for a good "pet quality" Yorkie. Waiting to hear... Carol Jean |
I too would like to know what other Breeders would charge for a 1 year old such as the one I am describing. Although I don't have a problem paying a good price for an adult that I know is a good representative of the breed except for the bite. I have no intention of breeding and would prefer her spayed before I took her if I were to decide to. I spent 1500.00 on Cali and 6,000.00 in vet bills during her first year so I would rather pay 2000.00 up front from a reputable breeder for a dog with a good health record. It would be cheaper in the long run. In response to the carpet issue. I can't delay any further I have already delayed it unit my husbands vacation the beginning of July and it is all paid for. I am definatley leaning to passing on her, but more from the standpoint of having just gotten Cali stable and not wanting to rock the boat just yet. My husband really wants to wait a couple of years and get 2 puppies at the same time, but he doesn't have to do all the work! LOL Thanks for your input everyone. I will let you know if I decide to get her. |
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HHHH I am not a breeder.. but here I go!!! I don't think it is anyone's position to say how much the person should pay. If anyone pays a pet quality yorkie for $2000. What's so bad? It is not like she was gonna buy a yorkie from Jeff Dane.. who charges with one more zero or anything. I mean Patti has been on YT for long time, and I think she knows what is appropriate. And I think it is up to the person how much you want to pay. In terms of $2000 ... I think in some areas.. $2000 is decent for really good quality yorkie. Some people prefer yorkies that are "almost show quality" :) And also.. some responsbile breeders spend a lot of money to make sure everything is well.. so.. I don't think anyone can say .... if the yorkie is not worth $2000 or not unless you know the breeder and yorkies. I am not saying it very well. I hope someone can back me up!!! :) It sounds to me that the yorkie might be worth it but then Patti has other concerns.. so.. maybe next time :) (if she changes her mind and gets her.. that will be fantastic too) |
I don't know Patti, but it seems from your post that you pretty much allready have your mind made up. It sounds like this just isnt the right time for you. If you are unsure, then don't push it. On the other hand, carpet can always be cleaned. I just got new carpet a few months ago, and I just got my new baby. $2,000 is alot for a dog that can't be shown. You might ask if that's the lowest she will go. Either way, listen to yourself before you go through with a big change. |
Patti, is there a way to visit easily? I mean are you close enough to visit this dog? I think that would be the only true way to know. If they are only an hr or so away I would visit and maybe you can even introduce the dogs since neither are pups and vaccinated?? Have you seen pics? I think personality of the dog is what is way important not really so much that she may be beautiful. There are many many beautiful dogs...Or you can wait and start fresh with a puppy when the time is right?? ( but there is something about not having to deal with puppy training too)????Gosh - it is soo hard to decide!! |
Michiko --- Of course, it's no one's business what a person will pay or is willing to pay for a Yorkie.....or what they can afford to pay, for that matter. But - from earlier posts I have read by some breeders here on YT - many people are paying more than they need to - or think they need to pay more than they need to for a very nice well-bred little Yorkie that is pet quality. I know a lot of people who think they can't afford a Yorkie because they cost "thousands of dollars" --- and, I know other people who think they can go out and buy one for $300. And -- yes - they are priced differently in different areas. ***** We have had threads here telling what people have paid for Yorkies - telling about them - and usually showing pictures of their dogs. And, for sure, some people did get absolutely beautiful little dogs - very good repesentatives of the breed - for $1000 $1200 $1400, etc....and sometimes less. And, a lot of people paid a lot more. ***** I still wish some breeders from different areas would give us their idea of what a not-for-show, not-for-breeding, but still very nice little Yorkie might be worth....just their own personal opinions. Michiko, You are right, the prices vary for so many reasons. I know that some breeders get a lot more than shots done at the vet and those tests come with bills. Some breeders work more on the behavior and temperament of their puppies also. I have predominantly had rescue pets, and my parents were breeders and showed dogs.. In my home, if I'm looking for certain qualities (AKC, medical testing, socialization...etc) it's worth what I'm willing to pay. I absolutely HATE travelling and was on the verge of making a trip to your little Haruka's birth home to get a good baby... If I am certain that I am willing to deal with any medical or behavior problems and a completely unknown past and heritage, I got to a rescue. (All of my pets before our Yorkie have come from the pound or rescue...this time I wanted a Yorkie..) Having had rescue pets, I do not kid myself about the value nor the cost of a dog. I have spent a fortune on vet bills on a rescue...I was very careful about getting my Yorkie as a Yorkie from a questionble line was no different in my mind than the medical roulette of pound pups. Please dont think that I am arrogant enough to believe that my well bred pooch is immune from any problems but now I actually have pictures of four generations and have spoken with EVERYONE who has gotten a puppy from this sire and dam...It is different than wondering if my Frank, the wondermutt had been neutered very early, or did he have any of his puppy vaccinations..etc... We have the paper from the rescue and all we know about him is that he was tested for heartworm and had a rabies vaccine.. It's nice knowing more for a change. As long as the person is aware of their own situation and what they are willing to take on, the purchase price of the dog doesn't matter to anyone other than the family getting the dog. |
Here's my 2 cents. :D If you're not going to show her, does it matter how perfect she is? What do you think is so great about this yorkie? (These questions are not sarcastic, just to get you to think.) ;) :D |
You can't put a price on love. If money isn't the issue than what I would do is just go spend time with her. You will know within minutes if the connection is there for you. And you could even think of taking your other babies with you. I don't show but I do breed and i'd say she is asking that price because she has invested alot of her own time and money into her and $2,000 wouldn't even begin to cover her costs. So that is probably why she is so high. i agree with Patti..for good health i'd pay that much and more if Ihad to. So i'd just visit her and go with your heart as you smile at your hubbie and the checkbook lol.. |

I wouldn't I just paid $1200 for a yorkie who is 8-9mos old and I regret it. If I'm ever going to pay that much money again, it would be for a younger dog who I can get him used to my lifestyle right away. I have another one I paid $1500 for and he is great but I got him at 4mos old. This other one was not worked with enough. I too thought that I was drawn to this path and this dog was meant for me and now I regret it. suz |
I emailed the lady I met at the show since I couldn't get a hold of the lady who has her right now. I told her that I wasn't in a postion right now to take a new dog. |
