Boiled chicken is okay, right?
 

I am heading to a supermarket soon. so I wanted to double check.. boiled chicken is good to feed a pup, right? I don't eat meat myself.. but I guess I have to start this little one! until she gain a pound more at least!

Yes, boiled chicken is fine. Just buy the chicken breast so you don't have to pick anything off of the bone. You don't want your little girl biting into a bone of any type. The white meat (breast) of a chicken has less fat than the dark meat which is better for her.:)

Will she not eat regular kibble? Starting them off on boiled chicken isn't something I would want to get into unless they had diarrhea or were absolutely not eating anything else. Are you wanting to just feed her 'real' all natural foods only? She will gain weight by eating puppy foods as well - she can't get everything (all of the nutrients/vitamins, etc) that she needs by eating just chicken. And you'll probably find that she'll only eat what she wants and she'll gain weight as she grows - don't rush it and try to pack weight on her - you don't want her to gain too much weight in a hurry and become overweight for her small frame. Oscar is 3lbs at 8mths and he eats way less than a 1/2 a cup of food a day - BUT, he's at a great weight for his size.

A good way to determine if they are at a healthy weight is if you can just SLIGHTLY feel her ribs - at a healthy weight, you can still feel the dog's ribs a little. If you can REALLY feel her ribs, spine, other bones, she could definitely gain some weight. If you can't feel her ribs at all, she would be considered a little overweight.

I realized.. that I posted on the wrong session.. I meant to put it on the diet section.

My girl eats Turkey (lunch meat) and rice.. she had hard time eating .. so breeder got worried and had to feed her turkey and rice. However... her poops is usually soft and I started getting worried about preservative and salt level on the turkey. So I wanted to give her something natural without bad stuff.

Anyway... I have her dry food out and she eats one or two bites a day. I give her nurtrical 2-4 times a day and I also give her vitamin twice a day!! :)

I just contacted the breeder and she said boiled chicken are good for her. I tried to get good chicken breasts! She ate it very good and taking a nap!! Right now, I need her to gain more weights and then I can say "start eating some dog food!"

Ah.. if anyone's pup is not gaining weight.. we need to think about what we can do :)

Haruka told me not to tell... so I am keeping her promise :D She eats okay.. but not dog food though.. SHe will get there.. right now I want her to gain some more.. then try to have her eat some dog food. I will see :)

I have been feeding Georgie boiled chicken from day 1 he was and is so small, I give him what he likes to make sure he eats. I have always encouraged him to eat his kibble so I mix some kibble in with a little boiled chicken and plain non-fat yogurt and he loves it. I think boiled chicken is fine, Georgie is healthy and is a bundle of energy. I agree with Tiger's Mom just stay away from any spices on the chicken, I am sure Haruka will love it:D

Boiled chicken is fine. Get the boneless breasts. Also I think giving her chicken to beef her up a little bit is fine. You can always worry about getting her to eat the dog food later after she has gained some weight. Another thing that I give mine that is good for them is cottage cheese

My Lacy was so fragile (seizures, hypoglycemia) when I got her I kept her on baby food pureed meat and was able to change her to dry dog food at about six months so it's not impossible even though you are "spoiling" her for the time being. I just started adding soaked kibble to the meat and slowly progressed until there wasn't any meat and the kibble was dry. All of my others haven't needed the special treatment so went to just dry kibble immediately.

When Oscar was teeny and being EXTREMELY picky, i mixed in baby food with his dry food - he LOVED it. Sometimes I would give him the baby food by itself if he was being ridiculously picky that day... I got the chicken and the lamb flavors - and it's good for him too. Also, cottage cheese is supposed to be good for firming up their stool.

Cali eats baked chicken breasts that are 99 % fat free and 17 % protein I mix a little dog food with it but sometimes she just eats the chicken. I put Missing Link supplement on it every meal. AFter 3 scary not to mention episodes of Hypoglycemia I feed her what she wil eat. I try and make it as healthy as possible.

I am the exact same way, and I am sure I have developed a picky eater but at 3 1/2lbs. he gets what he likes. He eats his kibble as well after months of figuring out what kibble he likes we have finally gotten him to eat on a consistent basis Candidae. Around our house we boil chicken like we are eating it ourselves, Georgie is one spoiled baby:D
