New Teeth, please advise I noticed last night that Ladys adult canines are growing in behind her baby ones now she has 2 sets there. Will these baby teeth come out, I know that whatever baby teeth do not fall out my vet will remove when she gets spayed but last week my vet told me she wanted to wait until shes about 7 or 8 months due to the fact that she hasn't lost all her teeth. Are these new teeth that are growing in going to be painful for her since they are next to the baby teeth??? |
Reuger's teeth did that too. I took an old t-shirt and tore off about a 4 inch strip. Then I tied a couple of knots in it and played tug-of-war with him. It helped to loosen his teeth and he even lost one while we were playing. The t-shirt stretches and the pulling action is very gentle on their teeth. All of Reuger's teeth came out except for a couple on top and the vet said not to worry about them but if we ever put him out then he'll remove them. |
Only problem is that none of the baby teeth that are left are loose yet... I'm always checking, in hopes of getting one...lol....so far I only got one tiny front tooth. |
I noticed Oscar had a double row of teeth on the top at the front too just a few days before he was to go in for his neuter. While he was out, they were going to pull out those teeth - well they ended up pulling 14 teeth!! He had lots of doubles that no one had seen while he was awake because he doesn't let anyone really look in his mouth. The vet kept them to show me just how long the roots of some of the teeth were - they NEVER would have come out on their own. (Oscar was also 7mths. when he had his neuter) Because I didn't realize he had this problem until just a few days before his surgery, I didn't have much time to try and work those suckers out on our own by playing and encouraging chewing and such - it made sense to just get rid of them all while he was out for his neuter instead of 'hoping' they'd fall out on their own. I don't think the double row causes them pain - it shouldn't be left for TOO long though as it can cause their gums to become inflamed and food debris can get caught in his teeth more. This is REALLY common in small breeds. Just keep playing tug of war (gently mind you) and encouraging chewing to loosen what you can and have the rest pulled the day of the surgery. |
Thanks...I guess we will have a new game to play now...lol...Im going to the vet next friday for her rabie shot...so i'll see what the vet says then, maybe she'll spay her earlier then she had said. |
