Surgery on the 30th Hey all! So I scheduled Zoe's surgery to fix his luxating patella for June 30th because the I have 4 straight days to stay with him after his surgery with the holiday being the tuesday after. I am so nervous. I had to schedule it with the vet that was associated with the petstore that my bf bought him from in order to not have to pay for it. I am against petstores but I got zoe as a gift and I love him to death. I did alot of research and went around the neighborhood asking what they think of the vet and I had nothing but good reviews HOWEVER he is NOT board certified orthopedist but had performed thousands of these surgeries. I asked the receptionist if I can see the operating room when I drop him off and she said NO. I will push to see it when I meet with the vet before the surgery. guys...I have no choice but to take him to this vet because its free but I did do my homework to make sure he is a reputable vet and he is but I am still VERY nervous. |
Oh honey, I'm so sorry. I know how you feel. My Maltese had surgery on his luxated patella. I choose the vet and paid for it and I was nervous. So I can imagine how you must feel being that you have no control over the vet. Can you post the vet's name and his office? Maybe I've heard of him before. I've gone to a few vet's offices in Queens before. PS - I'm located in Brooklyn and I see from your avatar that you're from Queens. If you need any help at all, just let me know. |
Oh, gosh! I remember when you got Zoe. I'm so sorry you both have to go through this, but if it makes a brand new puppy out of him and he'll be healthy from now on it will certainly have been worth it to see him not have pain. I understand your fear, though. Try to think positively. :) |
Awwww poor Zoe, I wish him a speedy recovery!!! |
I have a 2nd opionion appointment on Tuesday 6/27. My regular Vet doesn't do that type of surgery. They sent me to an Ortho Specialist (Farmingdale) who wants approx. $3000.00 per leg. This next place was recommended by a very reputable animal/pet advocate. The specialty place is in Westbury - www.vetspecialist.com - they will talk to me about a few options: #1 To do a bilateral surgery (both rear legs during one visit) - Roxy will have to stay in the hospital longer, but at least she will only have to go through surgery and healing 1x (approx. $2500 - $3000) or #2 one leg at a time (approx. $2500 each). So, I will let you know what we decided and how things go! I wish Zoe and SPEEDY and SAFE recovery, best of luck and lots of love coming your way! |
I don't know to much about the specialist in Westbury but I do know that it is the place where my Vets office recommends to go for emergencies. There is also a specialist in Plainview. Good luck with everything. |
