No petting please I am trying with the leash and treat, and I think that is how I am going to finally become the mistress here. I will not give up, as it does worry me. I live in a very rural area with lots of trees, and Jack would melt into them very quickly. There is also the danger of being picked up by a hawk as has been reported around here. It doesn't matter to the hawk, rabbit, squirrel, yorkie?? That story about Spike was great, I will have to remember that when company comes. The toy in question is a stuffed dog, and Jack holds it down by grasping between the ears just as if it was real. i guess if I decide to breed him I won't have a problem. :) |
Tried the coming at Sydnee from the side right now I have a 40- 60 ratio going. She is sleeping right now like an angel, reminds me of when my son went to bed at night and I would breathe a sigh of relief. I had made it through another day without doing any traumatic emotional damage, by over reacting or whatever, I am now breathing those sighs of relief with Sydnee, of course this will change in about 45 minutes when she wakes up from her nap and she decides to :aimeeyork train her Mommie some more. |
The secret to "COME" is treats! Reserve like a half hour for quality time with your dog, and have a bowl full of his favorite treat on hand. Move from room to room, say "COME," and the second your dog walks up to you, reward him with the treat and say "GOOD BOY!" Do it over and over, rewarding each and every time. It works! However, do not say "COME" and then proceed to give him a bath. When it's time for a bath, use the word "BATH" so he relates that word with the particular action. |
My little Romeo also backs up. He does it almost everytime I try to pick him up, unless he is tired or already sitting or laying down. In response to your 6mo. old getting "excited" on his toys...Romeo is only 3 1/2 mo. old and has gotten excited on his toys several times as well as my mother's female boston terrier. Looks like I have a real "LADY'S MAN" on my hands...lol!!! |
Learning to come I had a bad experience with my boys about 4 months ago, I have two male yorkies and I went to babysit my grand daughter out in the valley. They bolted out her front door each in a different direction on a totally unfamilar street three blocks from a major intersection. At 56 I never would have caught them without a neighbors help and I about had a heart attack. I decided then and there, that they were going to learn to come when I said so. I purchased a long lead from Petedge.com and hooked it first to my belt or belt loops and to them immediately upon coming home at night. I would call them to come, if they did, they got a treat, if not, I reeled them in saying come all the time very firmly. A couple of weeks ago, I took them unleashed to the courtyard of my apartment and let them loose. Every time I said come, they did, we do this at least once a day and so far they have always come. Today we had a bigger chance to see if it worked. I took them out to the courtyard and my neighbor unexpectedly came out with her dog to go somewhere. The boys dashed after her and the dog. I firmly yelled Come, Come NOW. I was absolutely thrilled that they ignored the dog and CAME. Next the park. |
