Could have been worse Your dog is still very cute. Things could have been worse--your dog could have been hurt. A friend of mine took her yorkie mix to a new groomer that her vet had recently hired, and the groomer accidentally cut the thin part of skin (just above the bone) at the back of the dog's hind leg. The vet treated the dog's leg right away but the dog wouldn't eat for days. She got completely traumatized and started soiling the house even though she was previously potty trained. At least your baby did not get physically hurt. |

your baby is still realy cute! That groomer must never of groomed a yorkie before. Ask around here and see if anyone recommends a groomer that they use in your area. Im lucky, I take Holly to my vet and they do it there. And she has been there about 4 times since I got her and I have never had a problem. But dont worry hair will grow back and at least she wasnt harmed. Also a quick question was your groomer licensed? I was reading an article a couple of days ago and it was saying to be a license prof dog groomer it takes over 1 year, plus work expereince. while to be a personal trainer it takes only 3 months. I just thought that was interesting. |
The exact same thing happened to me 3 weeks ago and now, Brownie's hair is growing back, slowly. I went a got her a whole bunch of new summer outfits and she's a lot happier, and so am I, LOL. |
Same thing happened w/my yorkie. The first time we took him to get him groomed the lady shaved off all his hair. It's finally starting to grow back now. But like yours, Thumper moped around the house for nearly a week. Soon she'll get used to it, but it takes time. Like everyone else said, just give her encouraging words and tell her how beautiful he looks! Good luck with everything and your yorkie is still very lovely! |
I have had awful expeiriences when i take casper to get groomed! they never seem to get it quite right it's always either too short or too long. This last time I told the girl to cut him as short as possible without shaving because it's gets pretty hot here in Sacramento. I also asked for to give him a teddy bear face I was shocked when I picked him up! his hair was still too long but his face was horable she cut his whiskers for some odd reason and they weren't even! to add to that his sanitary cut in the back was horable. now his hair is growing back funny on his face and in the back... |
If you have a good groomer (which we do), life is grand! Obviously, not everyone does. Haven't every one of you with bad experiences come away with the thought that you could have done it better yourself? Kinda makes the hassle of doing it yourself look pretty mild by comparison! |
Good Smoogly Woogly...what was that groomer thinking?? SHE should be shaved!!!! Well, like everyone has said, their coat does grow fast, thank goodness for you and your darling baby! A cute little t-shirt? Scotch taped bow?? That even more makes me have a desire to be a groomer. She'll grow out fine. Welcome to Yorkie Talk! |

I find that when I trim Chloe's hair (my yorkie) it seems to grow even faster so I would think her hair would grow back faster than you think. At least this happened in the summer and not the winter. :) |
Thanks for the replies everyone. Sorry I didn't get back sooner, our power was out for awhile. She's not moping around the house anymore, she's back to the usual, hyper and running around. We bought her some dog shirts made by american apparel which she seems to like. I do appreciate the replies though, it's somewhat settling to know that I'm not the only person who's had a groomer shave their dog. The comment about the groomer being on crack was hilarious, along with the one about shaving the groomer :D . I'll have to keep you all updated on her progress, and my search for a good groomer. Thanks again. |
There's good thing - she won't need a haircut for a long time! I gave my little guy a haircut last night. He looks cute. I left his hair a little less than an inch all over - with a little more on his legs and only enough to make him look like a Yorkie on his face. My problem is that I have a Bichon - and it gets expensive to take both these dogs to a groomer all the time. And, let me tell you - a Bichon is not an easy guy to groom..... so, I let a professional take care of him. And - then there's my hair too ----so there are three of us in this house that need to be groomed. Anyway - I am doing just fine grooming my little Yorkie myself. I don't use clippers and do only a scissor's cut on him. Your dog's hair will come back faster than you think -- and everyone is right. She's is still a very cute little gal! Carol Jean |
I'm taking Tinka in for her first "full" groom today. Now I'm nervous reading all these posts! I think I will stand outside the door with a tazer or something...LOL. :D I want her short for summer, but not quite that short... I've been taking my Mini Schnauzer to this groomer for years and they are ok - I usually get what I want. Sometimes I have to ask them to fix something or other before I leave. This will be interesting.... omega |
My advice to anyone taking their baby to a groomer is: TAKE A PICTURE WITH YOU!!! This leaves no room for interpretation by your groomer. If you show them exactly what you want your dog to look like, it takes the guessing game out and gives you a leg to stand on if you don't get what you want. The last time I did this, Nikko came back looking exactly as I wanted him to look and I was very happy. Sometimes we don't realize that we aren't clear with our instructions. Taking a dog in and telling the groomer you want him cut "short" is dangerous because that can mean so many things. We are lucky that there are so many cutie pies on YT and so many wonderful members that are more than willing to share images of their babies in various haircuts. Take the time to search for a picture that captures the exact look you want for your pup and take it with you. It will save you and your furball from months of bad hair days!!;) |

The regular groomer was off so I left directions and when I went back to get him all they did was trim. I wanted him cut down for the summer. He did not look any different except for his face, it was cleaner. $45.00 down the drain! Plus he had a purple feather thing in his head and looked really rediculious. We don't do the bow thing. Oh well. |
Oh no! I would have been upset, too. At least she'll be nice and cool for the summer and yes it will grow back! Bless her heart, and yours too, lol. |
