Doggie diseases- giardiasis Hi I'm new here. I am getting my little yorkie girl on the 23rd (hooray!).When she is 12 wks. old, we are planning to visit our friends at a tourist camp in the woods by a lake. The owners have dogs and cats that they take good care of and keep up on their immunizations. I have been reading about doggie diseases like giardiasis, which dogs can catch from being out in the woods where other wild animals may have been. Has anyone had to deal with these diseases? Please let me know |
hi, I don't have any experience on this subject. mine are never near woods :idontknow I just wanted to welcome you to YT. someone will surely have an answer for you. There are loads of pros here. |

Veterinarians advise that puppies be kept at home, and certainly away from public spaces such as campgrounds and hiking trails, until their puppy shots are completed. That's because it's too easy for a young dog to come in contact with parvovirus before the animal's immune system is ready for the challenge. The result of such exposure can be lethal, and is certainly not worth the risk. http://www.veterinarypartner.com/Con...P=PRINT&A=1516 |

Oh, and WELCOME to YorkieTalk! :welcome4: We look forward to seeing pictures of your new baby when you get her! |
Hi there! Is that the same as guardia? Well Lilly has a shelter cat sister, Saffron, and she came with Guardia  The vet said my cat got it from contaminated water at the shelter. As it would be, it is extremely contagious, even to humans!!!!! So my little Lilly got it also. All my animals (2cats, and 1 dog) had to get treated with medicine and I had to take several stool samples to the vet. In a nutshell the vets office became my second home... That was about 1 year ago, now the whole animal family is doing great :D Well good luck! ~lizette |
