Teeth brushing I took Starsky to the vet yesterday and the vet said he had really nice teeth for a little dog. My friend has a 4 lb yorkie and her teeth are just awful. She brushes them a lot too. The vet said it is just normal for small breed dogs to have bad teeth. Well my friend takes her yorkie in about once a year to have a dental cleaning. She said it is like 300.00 a time. Is that really true? Is it really that much?? And how often do they get this done if you brush their teeth regulary. This little yorkie as lost a lot of her teeth. She is 9 years old now. |
Good Question... Now I'm worried cause I brush my furbabies teeth every bath, which is twice a week. Brush or not to brush... That IS the question?!?! |
teeth brushing I tried brushing my yorkies teeth, but he just licked the toothpaste off the brush and he did not like the brush at all. About 2 years ago I started using stuff you add to their water that is supposed to clean their teeth. So far his teeth look good and he hasn't had his teeth cleaned in two years. We first saw this when we went to a pet show and the vendor had his yorkie there as a living testimonial. That dog was 10 years old and had great teeth and he never had a cleaning. |
What is it? wow! What is that stuff? I'd like to try it for all my dogs! |

This stuff sounds great!! I may have to look into it. Thanks for sharing the info. Sounds so easy to do rather than having to put them asleep for cleaning. |
small dogs can have problems with tooth loss when they get older i brush my puppys every time i bathe her or if i see something in them. hold them by their beard and open thei rmouth brush away they may not like it but it doesn't take long. also what they eat may affect their teeth also . there are dog foods and biscuits made specifically for dental health. petedge.com may have some dental hygene products also. |
the stuff I use that you add to the water is from Triple Pet and is called Plaque off/ Fresh Breath I also use a gel at you just wipe on their teeth. It is from Oxyfresh and its caled pet gel. They also have a liquid that you add to their water, but it is more expensive than the triple pet. |
I read some time ago about Toothpaste popsicles. You just put doggy toothpaste on the bristles and rub it into them and stick the toothbrush in the freezer the night before. Then, next day give the puppy the popsicles and they chew and brush their teeth at the same time. I have 4 Biewer puppies and I do that every night for my babies to try to get them started liking the taste of the paste...My adults hate having their teeth brushed but it is still necessary...and what a CHORE!!!!!!! |
