I'm taking back my x-pen praise When I go out for awhile or go to work, I have been putting my babies in a 30 inch high x-pen. When I work there is about a 5-6 hr span between the time my husband leaves and I get back. Last week I went out for awhile and when I came home my 9mo female greeted me at the door and my male was still in the x-pen. It was the weekend and my son had stopped by, played with them and he said he put them back in the pen. Today when I got home from work there she was again waiting at the door (also peed on the carpet). So I guess she must be climbing out. Little devil. So I guess the only answer is to buy a big crate that they both fit in. No sense buying a higher x-pen I'm afraid she'll break her neck. I'm afraid to put something over the top-she may get trapped. Little Miss Houdini. Any other ideas? |
if you put the pen in a square shape you an buy a cover that latches on to it so you wouldn't have to worry about her climbing out or getting stuck on something |

Yep, Scampers just learned how to do that. I did not believe it at first but sure enough he has learned to climb out. You can buy covers for the expens so he can't climb out. I use a blanket or tarp to put on the cage, he can't pull it down and he can't climb out with it on. They are so smart and mischievous. |
Parker doesnt climb out but we just got little 12 week old Maddie and up and over she goes. The first night we had her i couldnt believe she was quite all night. Woke up the next morning and she had been wondering the house all night. I'm sure she pee pee, but I couldnt find it anywhere. We are just getting a bigger cage for them. Its my only option. I tried the cover thing but I think its a pain in the butt. Good Luck |
Mine is I think 26"... I hope Haruka won't jump out... in a few yrs :D |
unless Haruka sprouts wings i don't think she'll ever be able to get out LOL |

LOL...that is funny....she IS little! Francie |
Angel has a bed and a plastic crate in her pen. Last night she climbed out of her plastic carrier, which was against the pen. My dad saw her come out of her bedroom when he got up in the middle of the night to use the washroom. We have a baby gate at the doorway but she can squeeze through. My mom put plastic wrap to block the gaps, but Angel found a way through a little opening at the bottom. I may look into the cover for her pen. I moved the crate away from the side of the pen. Right now I use a tarp to put everything on top of so it's easier to clean the accidents. |

How sweet, she wants to greet you at the door.:) :) :) I'd get a crate to keep her safe.:) :) :) |
And when you discover the little escapees...they don't know they've done anything wrong...all wiggly, happy...Hi momma, here I am, here I am.. :) |
it happened to me too! i ordered the superyard xt (from the baby section) from walmart.com, and while waiting for it, i bought two ply boards from home depot to keep lexy in. EVERY single morning i find her in front of my bedroom door looking smug and proud of herself. and yes, with a secret surprise waiting somewhere in the living room. sigh. |
we have the same problem...our little houdini...instead of spending even more money we just bought a roll of bird's netting from Lowe's and twistie tied it to the top of the crate and now's she's super safe and has never gotten stuck. She still tries to push her head thru but can't escape. The netting was like $5 and it doesn't look ugly, which was important to us. We could have gotten the metal part that they sell that fits on part but you have to configure it a certain way only and it's super duper expensive. |
