Help My yorkie is 6 months old and during the day she stays in the bathroom with a gate. Plenty of room to play but sometimes when I return home from work she has scratched on my nice stained wood trim. This doesn't happen very often. Will she get better as she gets older? Does anyone have any suggestions on how to stop this before she starts on my nice cabinets. |
A lot of people on here are always mentioning the x-pen, maybe something like that might help you, so this way shes confined to an area and you'll save your cabinets. |

Definitely put her in a ex-pen or large crate during the day. I wouldn't leave a puppy unsupervised in a room, because they WILL tear up anything wood, at least that is what I have experienced. An expen will keep themselves from damaging anything, and hurting themselves. |
If an x-pen isn't an option the you could try bitter apple spray. It works on most dogs and it doesn't damage wood or furniture... You can get it at about any animal supply house..... DO NOT, DO NOT, DO NOT get the brand from Hartz...... I made that mistake one time and Tank ended up getting sick and diarrea. Crystal |
I agree with everyone one here about the x-pen. Nikko was confined to the kitchen for a whole year without incident, other than occassional poop and pee accidents. The little monster turns a year old and decides he wants to redecorate mommy's kitchen by chewing 2 huge holes in my walls!!  I thought he had grown past his destructive stage but I have learned that you can never let your guard down with these little guys. The x-pen is great because you can isolate him in an area large enough for him to play but away from your property so that if he gets bored with his toys he won't decide to play with your walls!! |

yup, ours chewed/clawed up our baseboard until we put it in an expen where we leave about 1-2 inches from the walls...their little paws can still reach out if they're bored |
Cali has chewed alot of our woodwork, as well as our other puppies past, put holes on wall and carpeting. She is 1 yearold and still destructive if bored. |
X pen is a good idea. I have never used one, but to protect your woodwork....get gel deodorant and spread it on the surface. Doesn't hurt the woodwork, but doesn't taste good to puppies. ;) And they will NOT chew something coated with deodorant, really. |
I pretty much give my puppy the run of the house except i gate up potentially dangerous areas and I hardly come home to a mess. only once or twice did he chew up his wee wee pad. |

Thanks for all your suggestions. I'm definately gonna get a xpen. Sounds like the best solution for her. |
ex- pen or put deoderant or bitter apple spray on your trim. she will stay far far away from it! |
Oh MY LORD!!!!!! That's exactly what I'm afraid she will do one of these days to my bathroom. My cabinets are hand made and I would hate to see her chew one up. I'm getting x-pen this weekend!!! |
