Second set of teeth????? 2 Attachment(s) I have a question.....can Yorkies have two sets of Canine teeth? I noticed Molly has two Canine teeth on the bottom of her mouth and I was wondering is this normal and should I have them removed? I have noticed that she can only eat soft treats, could this be the reason. I really hope someone can help me with this. Crystal |
Yorkies are known for retained teeth. My Bell had them but luck enough she lost them before any damage had been done. My petey is another story, He has 4 reatined teeth and they are ruining his bite. One is loose and the others are being stubborn. I have an appointmrnt with my vet to remove all of them. How old is Molly? If she is over 6 months, I would recommend the vet looking at her. No worries, dogs can get a second set of canines if their baby ones don't fall out before hand. My little Coco had 2 sets of canines on the top. A little tug of war and lots of hard food and treats did the trick and within 2-3 months, the baby canines finally fell out :D It just takes some time. Don't put more stress on your baby by having them pulled. Just let her bite into apples, lots of buddha bones, and tug of war with toys. It works, don't worry they will fall out before you know it. What I also did was every night I took a warm wash cloth and put it on her tooth and played around with it. Not much pressure, not to hurt her, just to nudge it a bit. Coco actually liked it. She was almost 1 year when her last set of canines fell. |

Actually it's very common for them to retain baby teeth when the adult teeth come in. One of two things will happen: either the baby teeth will come out on their own, or the vet will have to pull them. Often people have the baby teeth pulled when the puppy is neutered or spayed. Don't worry...sounds normal! |

Nobella, I would agree with you to let nature take its own course, but If it doesn't, they really need to be pulled. Petey's molars are loose and I figure they will fall out, but his canines are solid and I doubt they will go on their own. He had perfect teeth just 2 months ago and now they are some what under shot. Not what I need for a stud. Crystal, Molly is still young, give her another few months and take Nobella advice, play tug O war and hard snacks are great!!;) |

The biggest potential problem with the baby teeth not coming out is the risk of infection. Sissy still has one extra tooth (10 months), not a canine. The vet said give it another month and if it doesn't come out naturally, it will need to be pulled. |
Most of Topher's fell out naturally (lots of chewy/hard treats) but a couple stayed in and wouldn't budge. They were removed when he was neutered at just over 6 months of age. (He's 8 mos now). Of the two that were removed, one probably would have fallen out on it's own eventually, but one had an extremely long root and the tooth would have caused a ton of problems had it remained in the mouth. Check them out and if you find that none are loose, I'd have the vet give them a check and see what he says. Infection would be your biggest worry and if they stay in for an extremely long time, they could affect the allignment of her permanent teeth. |
I would give it a little longer, maybe add some new chew toys. Are they all white? If not, have your Vet check them. If they are just have them checked at your next visit.:) :) :) |
