Age question and pic... 1 Attachment(s) What age do you think is right to take a yorkie puppy home?? The reason I ask is because I got invited to visit my boy again and the breeder said she may let him come home at 10 weeks because I am used to raising yorkies. I have read a lot of posts saying that it is not good to take a puppy before they reach at least 12 weeks. I got Romeo who was younger but who I was told was older and I handled him ok but I don't want to rush this either. I also wanted to share a picture of my boy with all of you. He is the one I had previously thought about calling Prince Charming but I have decided on the name River now. So I would like everyone to see a new picture of Little River of Sautee: ~Tru |
Omg...what a cute puppy He is the cutest little boy!!!! |
He is cute! I think that if you have expereince in raising yorkies and he is doing fine on eating solid food then it should be okay to take him home with you. I know alot of people say to wait until 12wks. I think that in certain situations that it would be okay before then. I let some of my pups go at 9wks when they got their 2nd set of shots. Congrats on the new puppy! |
I have always been told 12 weeks old or 2 pounds. If a person is experienced in raising young yorkies then I would say 10 weeks would be fine. |
This little baby is 1lb at this time and 7 weeks old right now. I can't wait to see him!!! It is still driving me nuts waiting, lol. I will keep everyone posted on him. Thank you for your quick responses! ~Tru |
he is a lot biger than Ceeby was when I got him. he was eight weeks and nine ounces. Dixie was nine weeks and 1.2 lbs. They both were fine. I think it depends on the dog. I know a lot of people keep them till twelve weeks and frown on those that let them go sooner and even on those of us that picked them up sooner. But, it really does depend on the dog. Ceeby was more than ready. The breeder had two liters all in the x-pen together. They had been weaned for quite some time and she had them almost potty trained. he was well socialized. dixie was half of a two puppie litter. her sister had been sold the week before so it was just her and her mother. Her breeder had not even started to potty train but apparently she was played with a lot. She was very well socialized at nine weeks and never seemed to miss her mother at all. |
As long as they are healthy and gaining weight, I think 10 weeks is fine, he is adorable.. I got Bailey at 10 weeks and had no problems |
I think 12 weeks is the perfect time to bring home a pup but 10 weeks isnt bad ether. I think 8 weeks or younger you can run into problems. I brought Chachi home at 6 weeks and he got sick so I would never get a pup that young again |
I got my Sadie at 8 weeks. She was just under 2 pounds. I never had the first problem with her. She made the transition from one from furMommy to this Mommy just fine. She never even once whined at night for her mom! Maybe she's the exception to the rule, but she's been great. |
The seller said she thinks he will end up being about 4lbs full grown but I hear form everyone on here and it seems puppies who are 1lb at this age end up being bigger dogs? Any opinions? I don't want to end up getting another 7+lb baby. ~Tru |
He is darling. If she is willing to let him go, I would take him. Dennis was 8 weeks old when I took him and I am not sorry that I did. |
He sure is a cutie! |
He is a cutie !! Kobe was 12 wks when we got him. But Kali was only 8 wks and 1.4 lbs. The breeder said that he had never let one go that young. But since we were experienced with yorkies he would let us take her. He was only 40 minutes away and said we could bring her back for a few weeks if we had any problems. She has been absolutely fine. We have never had a problem with her eating. |
I think River will be ok to come home at 10 weeks. I brought Coco home at almost 11 weeks and she was barely 1 lbs. She did great! If he is 1 lbs at 7 weeks I think he'll be 4-5lbs full grown. |
River sure is cute!!!!:) :) :) :) Not sure how big he will be. |
